Having paid a single supplement through Rail Trail Holidays I did not expect to be allocated an attic room, with only a skylight providing daylight (i.e.no view of the surrounding area) and a single bed. Why was I paying a supplement for a single attic room without a window? Also, the breakfast was meagre compared to the variety of food at the breakfasts in our other hotels.

Didn`t stay here ,however popped in for drinks whilst staying at the nearby campsite. 5 members of staff aimlessly wandering in and out of the bar. 1 barman and 4 waiting staff who didn`t serve drinks. Obviously this is their hiding place on a shift. Being a Publican/Hotelier I would have had all but 1 of them off shift. A good manager or duty manager should have dealt with this!!!!! Unless of course the staff are there on holiday as well.

Whilst on holiday in South Uist I decided to visit the Dark Island Hotel for a meal, I ordered a sirloin steak what I received was a mess on a plate the 8oz steak which was not prepared to an acceptable/edible standard. I asked for it well done and received it medium-rare a third of the steak was fat & grizzle and swimming in oil. The chips appeared to have been recycled many times before they reached my plate and to add insult to injury the garnish was made up of 1 tomato cut in half that had passed it sell-by date. The garlic bread that was ordered as a side dish favoured no better as one half was burnt and the other half still raw .I certainly will not be back to this establishment and recommend that others don't either. My comments were passed onto the management one including that the chef should re-train.
