“WONDERFUL”

I booked a last minute family holiday for October Half Term holidays. I thought it wasn't going to be very good. But it was WONDERFUL the staff were lovely and friendly, the WAITER we had most of the time was lovely.I was a bit worried about waiter service as we usually have buffet food. There was a at least 4 things to choose from each dinner time, Breakfast was Continental, but you could buy a cooked breakfast for 2 Euros, which we did every other day, and it was good too.The entertainment in the evening was pretty good to for October.
I would definately go back there. The bedrooms were basic, but they were very clean, and the bathrooms are some of the cleanest and best I have had.CORFU was really beautiful,
and the people friendly.
Thank you to eveyone at the Alykon.

“You get what you pay for and The Alkion is good value on a budget.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We went for a week October 21st to 29th and had a great time. To be honest we're not typical package holiday travellers, we usually make our own plans, but usually take one cheap package a year if the price is right. The Alkion (via Thomson) was fine, reasonable room with balcony and entertainment every night if you like that sort of thing - we don't but not a problem as there's a quiet area to sit and read which we prefer. The food was made to a budget (which I think you can guarantee is down to Thomson as I'm sure they pay their Hotels very little per night) but edible. Sidari is a small resort but there are nice walks from the Hotel to various places and plenty of local bus or tour operators for trips to Corfu town etc. Don't book the Thomson trips, they're about twice the price and no better (don't listen to the tour rep - they're paid to sell, sell, sell!) In fact the attitude of Thomson was my only problem with this holiday, all they want to do is grab money from you - as an example why charge £7 each way to pre-book a seat on the airplane? The flights are part of the holiday and you shouldn't be blackmailed into paying an extra £56 for a family of four just to sit in the same row! If anyone from Thomson reads these reviews I'd be intrigued to know how they can justify these extra charges as anything other than a cynical attempt to extort extra money from hard pressed families in the middle of a recession - shame on you.
Some advice:- don't get caught by the 'Yellow Submarine' in Paleokastritsa as we did - we sat on the boat for 35 mins whilst the operator sorted out one of his hire boats and then he shortened our trip to about 30 mins from the advertised 1 hour so he could be back for the next scheduled run. Complete rip off so AVOID AVOID AVOID!

“Nothing is what you expect!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Fruit salad from a tin, barbecue chicken is just oven cooked chicken with HP BBQ sauce on it! The food is what you would expect from a car boot sale or fete. Everything is with chips! Don't expect anything but average mediocre food from this hotel. Rooms clean and tidy, free wifi in reception, restaurant and pool area but it will not reach to your room unless you are directly above/next to reception. The location is poor, nothing to do in Sadiri in the last week of October so we went on coach trips every day for 5-10 euros each to Corfu town and villages with actual beaches not concrete ramps into water. Was OK but I would not come here again. Canal D'Amour beach is the only thing worth checking out in Sadiri. The pubs and clubs are just plain rubbish and it felt like we were on the set of a film somewhere deep in the abandoned wild west everything was closed and covered in plastic bags until 2012 summer season!

“Basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

The breakfast had a lot to answer for, milk already on your cornflakes (tasted more like carboard) two slices of toast one portion of butter and one portion of watery strawberry jam, all served at the same time so the toast was cold by the time you ate it. Three choices of meat each night but each night same meat with a different name and frozen veg! This was a little tricky for me as im vegetarian so we ate out 3 nights, you can have the starter as a main course but when i asked for some dressing for a bland salad i was told there wasnt any but did get some mayonaise. The lunch menu which you pay for was fine, a really good choice. Mario was miserable as was Andrea. The rooms are basic and out of date but clean. The evening entertainment team were fantastic, well done to Jane, Ian, Claire Katy and the others for doing an amazing job very professional, well done.

Room Tip: Book a double room they are far more spacious
