“Magnificent”

My favorite beach in the world is Kauna'oa Beach in Hawaii, but Winding Bay Beach is a very close second. The sand is absolutely perfect - a bright white almost talcum-powder soft sand with some pink color in several spots. The water is clear with long stretches of sand bars allowing you to walk yards and yards into the water while barely getting wet. The real difference is the surf - in Hawaii, going into the water is a major experience with waves towering overhead. Here at Abaco, the "waves" are at most knee-high. Walking the entire stretch of the beach, back and forth, takes about 45 minutes, and provides an excellent opportunity for collecting shells. Being here in January, we found the weather perfect (partly cloudy, high 60s and low 70s with a good breeze at all times).

Our kids loved the beach and the surf, so we ended up spending much of our time here at the Beach. We rented a car from SeaStar rental for $250 for the week and used that to go back and forth to get groceries as needed. We ate at the Club twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. The meals weren't particularly imaginative or interesting, but they were perfectly reasonable if a bit on the expensive side. The rest of the time, we cooked for ourselves.

The personnel were friendly and responsive. The tennis courts and golf course were mostly empty and well maintained. At one point, the tennis pro approached us as we were playing using some of the spare lesson balls that were in a nearby basket. He dropped off two new cans of balls for us to use without our even asking.

Another time, we said that we were looking for rosemary to use in roasting a chicken. There seemed to be none available locally but one of the concierges asked a friend who grew some in her garden to bring some out. It was dropped off for us in time for dinner preparation.

Marsh Harbour is the closest town, and it's about 30 minutes away by car. There's an enormous grocery store there, Maxwells, that stocked fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, etc. Prices were a little higher than one might find in NYC for some items, but were generally quite reasonable.

We found this to be a wonderful destination and we're puzzled by some of the negative reviews here. Indeed there are several houses going up, but we heard no noise at all where we were at any time of day. You may wish to ensure beforehand that your location will be similarly quiet. One person I see had a negative review about the beach - well yes, if you want to surf, this is not the beach for you. If you want to kayak or feel comfortable having your 3 year old run around in the ocean, or if waves aren't your thing, this is perfect.

We had a TV in the room - never turned it on. AT&T cell phones worked, but we turned them off. What could be better than a vacation where noone could contact us?

“Great for kids, not so great for adults”

Beautiful beach that is wonderful for children. There were fun activities and my daughter loved the golf cart that came with our room. The rest of this place left a lot to be desired. The people who work here are so nice but just seem clueless. The staff in the restaurant and at the beach are very nice. I tried to book fishing but nobody seemed to know how to do this. The phone in our room did not work so we had to drive to the reception area if we needed something. The room had no view-just a bunch of scraggly trees. The room was nice, large and clean but the bathroom was small and there was very little room for clothes. Food was good but kind of expensive. Although on par for a Ritz Carlton. This is not a hotel and you do not get hotel type services. Several nights we did not get turn down, room was not made up until after 5PM one day, I had to leave notes asking for more coffee for the room and more shampoo. Not at all close to a Ritz CArlton experience.

“Oh My Gosh! Your own Private Island!”

My husband and I are Ritz Resident Members and just got back from this beautiful paradise! You cannot believe this place and the customer service. They treat you like long time friends from arrival to departure and the grounds are phenomenal! You get your own golf cart once you arrive and the beach is to die for. We ended up staying an extra two days. Ron, the GM and Cristina the F & B Mgr is always there for your needs as well has Mago, Carl, and Dee. If you need a ride from the airport just call Wenzel at 242-577-0516 or 242-554-9739, he is great and his Denali is spotless! Right from the airport, we were treated very well. You cannot go wrong with this place and if you like to golf, well you won't be dissapointed, especially with the back nine. GORGEOUS! We met some great people this trip and you will love it! Its great for weddings too! There was a wedding there and they reserved the clubhouse and said it was the best yet. The scenery is to die for and I swear, it's like your OWN island! If you need to getaway, this is it. If you have to stay In Miami the night before, stay at the Ritz Key Biscayne! There are only two flights to Marsh Harbour. I would recommend American! By the way, take "Off-Deep Woods bug spray" as those no see-ums will get you. Also, AT & T is the only carrier that works out there, so make sure you have that or you will be cahrged $4 a minute for a phone call! Bon Voyage!

We had a sunrise wedding on January 26th and it was perfect. The Abaco Club is amazing, we felt like we were on our own private island. The food was delicious, our cabana was so cozy, the staff is excellent in every way. We have beautiful pictures and wonderful memories of Abaco Club. We will be returning for sure.

“This place is out of the world”

I am not sure if previous reviewers live on the same planet as me. This place is fabulous. The people are the friendliest, most competent I have ever seen. The rooms (cottages) were fabulous, the beach breathtaking, the golf course spectacular and the food great. The service is top flight. One of my friend's wives lost her wallet on the beach. They sent out a detail to find it and showed up an hour later with the wallet wrapped in bows, intact. It was buried in the sand. The golf pro, tennis pro, front desk people can't do enough for you. They constantly drove us to Pete's Pub at Little Harbour to party. I ahve been all over the world and this is my #1.
