“Great value, clean, and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

We need to stay for one night at a hotel in Chaweng before we headed off to Lamai. We choose this hotel due to reading reviews on Trip Advisor and I wasn't disappointed. It's a good clean hotel. The staff were very good and helpful. The location though isn't ideal as we wanted to be in the heart of Chaweng but this was on the edge. Not a major issue as we walked to the main drag of Chaweng with ease. The rooms were large, clean and good. One moan would be that it's a bit dated. Nothing wrong with that though as the cleanliness more the makes up for it.

Worth noting about the location it is right near the Muai Thai arena and a long street full of little bars. Me and my wife walked down the street and hit a night club called Reggae which is huge and very good.

Finally we was told on arrival we could use the swimming pool! I was not expecting this but it turns out they now have a sister hotel opposite which was still under construction (internally only). So we went to have a look at the sister hotel (I think they called it Renaissance but don't quote me on that) and we had a snoop around (no staff at the entrance) and it looks as though it will be of a high spec. Rooms looked very nice. Modern. As for the pool, which funnily isn't complete (some lights need to be fitted) it is fantastic. Part infinity type pool on the 4th floor over looking Chaweng. Fantastic views and a welcome surprise of use for us.

“Try Harder”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2010

This hotel was not in the best location (granted it wasn't far from the main Chaweng Beach Rd). ..easy scooter taxi ride. The exterior and lobby of the hotel were really nice and chic looking. However, walking into a room took that all away. We had a back room (was was probably good for noise) but it was too dim and dingy looking. Resembled a dorm room. Mosquitos were a problem, too. Bed was big but not comfy. The duvet cover had stained mosquito blood. We had to ask for hand towels daily. The bathroom was dim and there were stains on the toilet seat and in the shower (grout).

The girls at the front desk were really nice and helpful, though. There is good shopping in Chaweng so take advantage of it. If you want a change from Thai food, Noori Indian was great. Also, the water was quite rough at Chaweng Beach so we went to Chaeng Mon Beach one day...nice and laid back. Ark Bar and Bar Solo were great. You have to try Green Mango at least one night, too.

“so much potential, but doesn't make it even halfway there.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2010

My issue with this hotel is that its rooms and lobby look mod and chic... but everything else about it goes against its appearance. It SHOULD be trying a little harder to match the service, etc, to its decor because its kind of a shame that it doesnt.

Re: the rooms - pretty much looks exactly like the pictures up here, so that's always a relief. The beach is also pretty close (maybe a 7-10 minute walk), but there are definitely places that are closer to the beach if that's primarily what you're looking for. Also, please keep in mind there is an "old" hotel and I believe they are constructing the new one right next to it, so hopefully that'll make things better, but askf if you can get a room away from construction noise if you are traveling there soon.

Re: the service - honestly laughable. I don't mean to be mean but the woman at the reception was kind of slow (sorry, there is no way to put that nicely) and barely spoke any... and I mean any... English, which would've been fine if the service was even mediocre, but they aren't even aiming for mediocre, unfortunately. Except for calling a taxi, which we did several times and therefore it got better with each call, I found asking for anything to be a task. We ordered room service the first night we were there (they messed up our order, I guess that should've been my first clue that something was up) and left early the next morning - when we came back at around 4pm no one had cleaned the room. And then there was this whole thing about no housekeeping after 3... even though we left a "please tidy up" sign up when we'd left early that day.

During our stay I frequently saw leftover food and plates on a lounge table that was in front of the elevators on our floor. It just seemed like they never picked up the plates - not really sure why - but it was gross. There weren't any soap/toiletries in the bathroom at any point... even after housekeeping. The towels that we received were supposed to be white but were gray and dirty... again, gross. And then one night we got back to the hotel and we didn't have any towels. When I called to ask if we could get some, they told us that the towels were in the laundry and we'd only get them by 9pm. So a hotel that doesn't have any spare towels. When she gave us our towels, she had only one one for each of us and I asked for a smaller towel as well - she said no. The restaurant was kinda meh as well, nothing great but not horrendous.

If you're looking to go out on the town, I don't think the location is the best. You have to call a taxi through the reception, which worked out fine for us, but given that it was the same car and driver who kept coming to get us, I have no idea how the other people in the hotel were getting around if they needed a taxi.

The crowd at the hotel was younger, I didnt see alot of people that I thought were over 21 staying here. So if you are 21-ish and going with a bunch of friends and renting scooters to get around, go for it.

Otherwise, I think there are better options for your stay in Chewang (it really is a gorgeous beach). I'd sum this hotel up as a bare-bones hostel that has hotel-like rooms. So, bring your own everything and expect no service but you'll be sleeping in a chic, spacious room.
