My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Balcon de Competa for one week during a walking holiday with Ramblers Holidays. The Staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout the whole time. The hotel was comfortable and the food was good. Breakfast options were varied and plentiful. Evening meals were good, nicely presented and there was a choice for each of the three courses. Coffee was included with no extra cost..
There is a bar within the hotel that is open to the public. Local people used it and it added to the character of the hotel.
Bedrooms all have a bath with shower. We had a balcony overlooking the pool area. The pool area and garden is very pleasant, even just for sitting
Competa has a good range of bars, restaurants and tapas bars and is a pretty town.
We enjoyed our holiday and recommend the hotel.

I spent just over a week at the hotel in August and had a really great time. Friendly staff, lovely rooms- all in all a very very good 3 star hotel! Far much better than many so called 4 stars that I have stayed in. The breakfasts were our favourite meal of the day - a great selection of fruit, pastries, delicious dougnuts, hams and chorizo and full english fry ups too. Had a really lovely time - recommend to a friend anytime.

My whole experience at this hotel was marred by several factors.
Upon checking in the member of staff on reception assured me that the garage parking facility would be opened up for me, to provide secure parking for my car.. I returned to my vehicle and waited and waited but nothing happened. I went back to reception and was again assured that the garage would be opened. I returned once again to the vehicle, and I waited etc etc.
On my third visit to reception the assurances were again given, and again nothing happened so I gave up and parked on the street. In the morning when I went to my car I found that it had been vandalised during the night.
Luckily I had enough cash to pay my bill when checking out as the electronic card system was not functioning, a not uncommon situation apparently, according to the morning receptionist.
My room overlooked the pool at the rear of the hotel. The room was clean and well prepared, but I didn't need an alarm call. At 08.30 and on a number of later occasions a very loud public address system was employed at a nearby business, making any further sleep impossible.
All round I had a far less than satisfactory stay at this hotel.

We have just returned from a short break in Competa which was meant to be three days but was extended to 10 days due to the volcanic cloud. The Balcon de Competa, apart from being a lovely hotel in wonderful surroundings, must have the most helpful staff in Spain! They couldn't do enough to help us in very difficult circumstances. Rooms and meals were excellent .
