“Lovely & peaceful”

The chateau was lovely - the original paintings and furnishings combined to create the illusion that we were masters of our own chateau! The chateau has been in the same family since the mid eighteenth century and the host is a cousin of the current owner. He was welcoming and helpful and his dining suggestions were excellent. Breakfast in the hand-painted dining room and drinks on the terrace by the Loire were both excellent. We loved our spacious and beautifully furnished rooms on the ground floor, but our one complaint is that the original furnishings appeared to include the mattresses.... it's definitely time to get new ones sans lumps and fleas...!!!

“One of our trip's highlights.”

Chateau de Colliers was exquisite with lovely, clean and comfortable roomsand baths. Above all, it was tranquil in a gorgeous setting and included a wonderful breakfast. We were transported out of this hustle-bustle world into a much different but beautiful time and place. The "greeters" were Patrick, cousin to Marie France (the owner) and his Columbian wife. They were gracious, charming, helpful, (suggested sights, restaurants, routings) and did so much to make our visit one to be remembered --and highly recommended!

“a real chateau on the loire, nice but not our favorite”

This is a real chateau right on the Loire river. The standards of the room in terms of furnishings and cleanliness were very good. The breakfast was the best we had during our Loire valley tour, with cheese and eggs and many types of jams to round out the usual breads. The dining room was lovely with scenes painted on the walls and ceiling.

Somehow it didnt really speak to our hearts though, the way our stay in other B&B's in the region (such as the Chat courant in Villandry) did. It lacked a bit of warmth and flowers we felt.

Dont leave the lights on at night as bugs got in even though our window was closed.

The restaurant they recommended, the Chantarelle, has really good french cuisine, starting at 20 euros a plate. The menues at 30 euros are a better deal.

Nearby Chateau Chambord was well worth the visit, and the B&B gave us discount coupons for the entry.

“Cobwebs, mold, and fleas...Oh My!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2005

Chateau de Colliers has a beautiful tree lined drive and an impressive exterior. Be warned! Once you leave the safety of your vehicle, the visit rapidly deteriorates.

But I get ahead of myself.

I booked my stay at Chateau de Colliers online, using jpmoser. Although I wrote to the site asking for good directions and a phone number, they were never sent. Finding the chateau at night proved a tremendous challenge. Thankfully, resident of a nearby town took pity on us and allowed us to follow her in our car to the Chateau.

Although our host was very friendly, the Chateau was a huge disappointment. Our "grand" room was not so grand.

* The fabric covered walls had mold stains in the corners.
* There were cobwebs everywhere - including one grand one which hung from the chandelier to one of the beds.
* The homme debout, or armoire, was falling apart and made us affraid to use it.
* There was only one towel and two hand towels in the bathroom, and they were all stiff and musty smelling.
* The decor was odd - a discombobulated assortment of antiques, knitted knick-knacks, and flea market finds.
* Finally, the place must have been infested with fleas. My friend and I slept in separate rooms but both walked away from the chateau itching and with little bites.

The Chateau is in need of an infusion of money, love, and elbow grease.

There are much nicer, well loved chateaux in the area for the same price. I would not recommend this place, even though the host was kind.

TIP: Chateau Bouceel in Normandy is amazing. The host and hostess are warm and welcoming, the chateau is clean, pretty, and historically accurate.

“charm, authenticity and refinement with real aristocratic simplicity”

I spent a very good time in the Château de Colliers , the place is a real family castle with real antique furniture and full of precious things the owners just let there for the guest to enjoy...taking the risk to be stealen......that's really fair!!! they are very kind and of very good advice for restaurants or places to visit......In the great drawingroom,it's good to rest and savour the reading of a book, seated in the luxury of real 18th century silk covered louisXV chairs under wonderful christal chandeliers, surounded by authenticity en quiet harmony. Delicious breakfast, nicely presented in a really wonderfull small diningroom with authentic painted pannels of great value. All this is yours during your stay and the owners of such real marvels are so gentle and so simple they make you think you are invited there as a good familyrelated friend.
