“Does not fit the expectations..”

We stayed here for one night. I think the chateau is not very well taken care of, as it smells, and does not feel very clean. I think the chateau should be priced less, as it does not fit the expectations that you may have about staying in a nice chateau. The bed sheets and bathrooms are clean, but not comfortable , toilet stopped fleshing in the morning. The bed was uncomfortable, the comforter none existent. Breakfast was ok. I would not stay here more than one night.

“Such potential going to waste”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

The prospect of staying in a Chateau in the Loire is an enchanting one. Obviously any accommodation website is going to put up their best photos to entice guests, so perhaps we were conned. Unfortunately, Colliers could be something great, but it appears to be in more of a downward spiral due to lack of funds, increased maintenance costs and the inability to provide a genuinely decent service.
What Colliers needs is a mass injection of funds to breathe some life in to what obviously was a magnificent building in its heyday. Little things like plastic table settings placed out the front of this stately home are an indicator of the overall shortcuts that have been taken to turn this family home in to a revenue raising hotel.

I sincerely believe the cost does not represent good value for money. It seems more like a desperate ploy to get as much revenue of the few customers that come here to keep the place from falling in to disrepair. Our bathroom was severely dated and in need of attention and behind paintings and tapestries 'strategically' placed on the wall was rising damp and mould.

Do not be mislead when they advertise children's playground (a rusty set of swings) and swimming pool (a grimy above ground inflatable shoved in a corner) Photos attached.

Our host at least provided us with a warm welcome, enough for us to actually feel sympathy for him and his struggle to keep the Chateau running. It would be nice to see if this place has progressed in a few years, but in all honesty, we won't be going back to find out.

Room Tip: You'll want to at least have a room facing the River. The sound of it running by is very pleasan...

“Faded glory”

We stayed here for one night during a cycle tour of the Loire. I have to agree with recent reviewers that it is really in need of an overhaul. Plastic flowers and photocopied prints have no place in a venue that charges so much. The rooms are tired and the bathrooms are positively archaic. We arrived late and were told to go to the local village for food. Fully booked, so we went to Blois - 17 km away. They miss a trick by not offering some kind of rustic supper in the chateau. At breakfast we were marshalled into a straight line at the table like children which destroys any intimacy. Plus sides - the view and the fact that madame let us leave our car there for a couple of days.

“A heart-sinking disappointment”

The host, after a 9.40pm arrival due to flight and baggage loss delays of 7 hours and nothing to eat or drink except water, advised us to put down our suitcases forthwith and drive to a number of restaurants nearby for something to eat and drink, which we did without success. On our return the host, knowing our circumstances, did not have the grace to offer us something to drink. Our room had a reasonable view over the "garden" (being raked sand) to the Loire River. We found the chateau tired and desperately in need of fresh decor and an energetic clean to enliven it. The rooms downstairs displaying the "seven generations of family portraits" did nothing to dispel our impressions and in fact looked like an unlived in museum. We made sure not to stay for the second night. We have now stayed in six chateaux and this, although the most expensive, was by far the least appealling. There are other chateaux in the Chambord area which must surely be a better option.

“Disappointing! Needs a good cleaning and updating.”

While the setting is lovely, this inn is DESPERATELY in need of refreshing. Lack of cleanliness in the rooms is a serious problem - all lighting in the bedrooms was so dusty and full of cobwebs (in the summer!) that I could not even sit and read a book. Thousands of dead bugs on windowsills, many more thousands of miniature bugs invading the room at night - and I did not even have window open. I had to hide my head underneath sheets to not be swarmed. Linens were unacceptable - completely. At this price point, 123 euros/night, an inn should not should have scratchy mismatched sheets and only two mismatched chintzy towels! No tissues, 1 little soap, no linen at bidet... REALLY! I left at the crack of dawn - with the proprietor scolding me for waking him up... Loire has so many other charming and welcoming options, stay elsewhere.
