“Great hotel in superb position”

We stayed here a couple of times whilst visiting family who live in Puerto Naos a year or two ago. We stayed in a hotel room the first visit and and an apartment the second. The hotel isn't mega modern but it is very well cared for and has a nice, friendly atmosphere. The food was plentiful and if you picked what you had, very good with lots of choice. Our hotel room was superb, lovely bathroom with lots of hot water and a bath as well as shower. We had fantastic sea views over the black sand beach. The apartment was spacious and well kept, with a view across the inside swimming pool. Of course if you go around looking for problems you can always find them but overall we really enjoyed our stay here. Of mention is the superb swimming pool, surrounded by the sea on three sides. What more can you want than to lie on your sunbed listening to the Atlantic lap at the rocks and beach below ?

Puerto Naos itself is a sweet little resort. We did find it expensive to eat out and ended up using the kitchen more than we might ! Do visit El Bucanero Bar and say hello to the lovely Laly, this is the friendliest bar in town! The resort is so small that I felt very safe letting my (then) young teenage girls have as much freedom as they wanted.

Enjoy, the island is simply stunning and this side of it has the best weather and such a great atmosphere. There are photos on my profile I will try to link them to this review.

Room Tip: A sea view, if possible adds a lot to the experience.

“Great hotel at a great location”

Very nice hotel right at the beach. The hotel is at the ens of the boulevard, so you can walk rght into the little town of Puerto Naos. Two large pools and most rooms have seeview, at least sideways. We had a very large appartment with separate large bedroom and a small kitchen.

Room is cleaned every day.
Only wifi at the huge reception area.

“Very tired hotel - needs a new lease of life”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I agree with with a lot of the recent reviews so I won't go over the same points again. This hotel is getting old and no longer really fills the needs of the modern holiday maker. We had an apartment with breakfast included. That way we could decide how and where we wanted to eat. We filled up nicely with varied breakfast and then either ate in a restaurant or, a couple of times cooked. But the cooking facilities are very limited. Even for just two people you could hardly fit two pans on the cooker at the same time. But the extractor had been taken out a long time ago and, worse, the fridge had half the shelves missing. You could hardly keep anything in there.
Our television was very small and very old and really should have been dumped a long time ago. We are all used to large flat screens these days!
The bed settee was very uncomfortable as a settee. God knows what it would be like as a bed. And my wife saw that the mattress was stained! Yuk.
One major problem was leaving the hotel to go to the village. The quickest way has a load of steps which are a nightmare for people with kids and pushchairs of which we saw a lot. Also the bikers had to lift their bikes up these steps. It is not too good for people who are not good on steps. The alternative is to all the way around the sea side of the hotel, past the pool and sunbathers.
Sol have to decide what to do with this hotel. Keep "milking it" or really go for a root and branch renovation which will cost an arm and a leg!

“Great Value Christmas holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Decided to go back to the Sol La Palma with the whole family for Christmas, tempted, it has to be said, by rooms at 49€ per night, which is stunning value for the festive season. As I'd booked 4 rooms, and decided to upgrade to half board for everyone, they put all our party together in a nice refurbished, quiet part of the hotel, with sea view upgrade all round. The interior refurbishment is not extensive, in fairness, but is noticeable. I suspect the manager is new here, and he does seem to have got a number of things sorted since our last visi twelve months ago. Everywhere is cleaner, and in full working order. Staff are a lot more friendly and efficient, and the food options, whilst never gourmet, have improved, certainly with our party's hungry mouths to feed! The entertainment was good fun. Not slick, but that's the real charm of this place. The pool was certainly warm enough to swim in, as was the sea. One unquestionable thing about La Palma, is that if you want warm, sunny weather, this is the correct side of the Island to come to. The East side (eg Los Cancajos) seems to be permanently cloudy every time we've been, yet, through the La Cumbre tunnel it's bright sunshine. The long term dilemma remains for Sol Melia. Pretty soon this hotel is going to need a complete remodelling, outside and in. As others have said, it really is not a 4 star hotel by 2012 standards. A serious wad of money is going to have to be spent here, and , no doubt the prices will reflect this. But till that time, if you want a great value half board deal (do not bother with the All Inclusive option....drinks etc are dirt cheap anyway), the Sol La Palma is a great choice for older people and families alike.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view double. The bigger rooms/suites are nice, but having stayed in both, I'd say n...

“Enjoyable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Having read the previous review I was a bit worried about how our holiday was going to turn out. But in fact my family and I had a really enjoyable time .

We were traveling with two children so the quietness of Puerto naos suited us perfectly. Not that I am sure we did'nt disturb a few sunset watchers ourselves with our teething little boy !

I do agree with the last reviewer about a few things like the twinbeds and the sofa bed being too high. But having stayed in los Cristianos in Tenerfife , and los Concajos the previous week It was heaven !

The staff were fine but even though we stayed for a week and went half board( so they saw us twice a day) only once did they help us get a high chair. Each time having to go looking for one even though we were the only ones using it as it was mainly couples.
The food was good but repetitive and really did'nt want anymore after 4 days. Pork or "fish" everyday.
One thing I did find extremely annoying was the access from the apartments to the beach which were steep steps with water running down them which I just dont understand. Never mind me with the buggy and baby and my shopping, it was the elderly holidaymakers I felt sorry for!!!!
Puerto Naos beach is lovely . The water even for november was perfect. The hotel had a heated pool which my daughter lived in on the days where the sea was too rough for her.
Overall a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful spot
