“Very nice hotel in a lovely location filled with peace and quiet, NOT IN SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA”

The hotel is just perfect. The room is just the right size and has a fridge. I can't think of a single complaint about the room. It is not stylish or modern, but it is clean and fine for a stay of a few days. The breakfast is good and the views are lovely. The beach across the street is very nice. I thought it was a bit pricey, though, considering the style of hotel it is, and the fact that it is really in a tiny little town so distant from anything. The town has little to offer but a few restaurants and grocery shops, and apartments of similar quality to the hotel but far cheaper, which is why I probably wouldn't return to this hotel, even though it is a nice place. The island itself is wonderful. Only complaints: they don't reserve the hotel parking for the guests, so you have to compete with all the beach visitors for a space.

And I would add for TripAdvisor: this hotel IS NOT LOCATED IN SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA...as the hotel's very name indicates, it is located in Valle Gran Rey, which is the section it should be in on TripAdvisor. San Sebastián, the island capital, is at least a one-hour drive away on the opposite end of the island.

“Excellent service, lovely location, good value for money.”

My mother and I stayed here for a week in January. We liked this hotel a lot and would definitely go back. The staff on the front desk were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, giving us numerous tips about hiking routes, activities, bus schedules, etc.

The rooms were pleasant - not luxurious (3 star is right) but well presented, clean and with a lovely view over the mountains. The hotel is well positioned next to a parade of handy shops and close to the sea. Several beaches are within a few minutes walking distance.

There was a plentiful buffet breakfast on the roof terrace every morning. We also chose the dine-in option, which was good value for money. We're vegetarian and there was still enough choice for us. It wasn't haute cuisine, but decent food and an excellent selection of deserts.

Most of the guests - both in this hotel and on the island generally - were German. This was really an advantage as everyone still spoke excellent English but there was less noise and rowdiness than one would expect from a British resort.

Our only tiny criticism was that the roof-top pool was unheated, and very cold in January. I swam twice but only saw one other person swim during the week - and he got out quickly after a single length!

“3star does not do it justice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2009

We stayed here as part of a Saga Canary Island Hopping tour and this was the best and most relaxing hotel of the three used even though this was supposedly 3 star and the others on Tenerife and La Palma - 4. We appreciated the quiet situation on the sea front although the slightly untidy site adjacent kept my location rating down to 4 star rather than 5. Otherwise there is little to fault in terms of rooms, staff and food in the usual buffet style restaurant. They gave us vouchers for free tea and coffee in the rooftop bar/cafe which adjoins the swimming pool. Unfortunately the latter was unheated and only hardy souls like me (used to swimming in the North Sea) ventured in. Pity really because it was a really nice pool with plenty of sunloungers etc. We would certainly go back here under our own steam, flying into the fab new airport and hiring a car for the spectacular if bendy drive down to Valle Gran Rey

“Peace and quiet, what more can you ask for?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2007

Anyone looking for a small hotel which rather than add stars actually underplays its status (its 3 stars put UK 3-stars to shame) would do well to book this one. It is ideally located on the seafront and with views of beautiful overhanging cliffs. Not a football shirt in sight. and everyone is very aware of the 'quiet approach' advocated by the management. The staff are simply fantastic, no problem is too much for them to try and solve. The fact that they are the same as a few years ago speaks volumes for employee retention. Food is what you would expect of a hotel that caters for various nationalities (although mainly German) and compares favourably with other establishments. Any glitches in this respect are more than offset by the chance to have breakfast and lunch on the roof terrace with the sun warming your back/front and looking out over banana plantations and the ocean. Late at night, reading a book as you hear the waves rolling onto the bach is simply priceless. Ideal hotel for anyone travelling alone (which was not my case but I could clearly see the benefits, as there were several lone visitors). Ideal also if you are concerned about the environment, they have a very interesting eco-approach to products, rubbish etc. Give the hotel a try!
