Stayed here 2 or 3 times on business so a good internet service would have been welcomed. However, the hotel has large, very clean rooms and bathrooms with a decent TV service. Beware, though, the balcony: if you have children there is no protection to stop them walking over the edge and falling some 20 feet. There is also no privacy, other than the curtains - if you walk out on the balcony there is nothing stopping you from walking past or looking into other rooms. That might apply only to one side of the hotel. It could well be different elsewhere so check first.
The food is quite good indeed and the dining room, although small has a variety of seating arrangements that can comfortably accommodate larger groups, if necessary. However, the no smoking area is small and limited. There is a small seating area in the foyer but there is no lounge if you want to get away from your room. It might be argued that with the great weather there, a seat in the gardens is more than compensation.
The swimming pool is large and free formed with a poolside, soft drinks bar. The deeper area is roped off from the shallow part. The downside is that they seem to have a limited and not very good range of music!
The location of the hotel is on the edge of the town (known as a city out there) and a car is a necessity. There is a taxi, apparently, but there appears to be no dedicated taxi service. The other disadvantages is that the grounds, immediately at the back of the hotel, as of May 2011, were having some repair work. There is also building work going on to one edge of the hotel although that did not in any way disturb me. The gym is too small and too outdated. The last negative point for some is that there is no bar and no-where in the town/city that sells alcohol.
On the positive side the architecture of the building is stunning - I am tempted to say art deco - and there is a beautiful coloured, glass ceiling to the main area. The lifts are open to the main area which is also an attraction. Maybe some paint in certain areas outside would help but, to be fair, there are plans to develop the hotel and with that, to raise the standards even further.
The hotel is almost beachside but there is no beach and swimming in the sea is prohibited. Mirfa, about a mile away, does have a very good beach. The gardens are excellent, well kept and an attraction in the cooler times. In the middle of all this are some quality tennis courts and the opportunity to maybe spot some of the sea birds of the gulf.
As is usual in the Middle East, the staff are friendly and they made me feel welcome at all times.
Would I go there again? Well, there is no other hotel in the immediate area but I would love to go back and see if the developments have improved the hotel. The plans look ambitious.......we'll see!!
Room Tip: Check how the building is going.
