“Quiet possibly the worst place I have ever stayed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The guy that runs the place is a jerk and will rip you off whenever he gets a chance. Don't bother trying to book because he tells you that you have a reservation but when you show up he has nothing and offers you spot in his shed for a ridiculous price. I am so glad he stuffed us around because I had a amazing holiday staying elsewhere! Don't ever stay here please it will ruin your holiday!

“Could be lovely with better management.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

The positives of this place?

- Friendly Owner who speaks great English and is always willing to help you and can arrange for any trips, motorbike hire etc. etc.
- The excellent location right on a quiet beach that's great for swimming or surfing (except for sandflies - See below)
- The grounds are pleasant places to be (except for rubbish - See below)

The negatives:

- When my wife and I stayed there the cleanliness of the place was a disgrace. The bathrooms (which for some rooms are communal and none have hot water) were cleaned once in a week. There was rubbish on the ground outside which we recognised as having been in the bathroom bin a day before - This lay there for several days and wasn't picked up by the time we left. The toilets by the bar in particular resembled something at the end of Glastonbury festival by the time we left. We also had to go and ask for our bedding to be changed after 5 days as it hadn't been done.

- The restaurant serves an average breakfast (disgusting coffee, barely cooked toast, some fruit, eggs) and poor food for lunch and dinner. It's also outrageously over-priced (things must have changed since the guy below said it was good value in 2010).

- The beach is infested with sandflies. This is a great shame as it's a lovely beach. The management didn't tell us this when we booked in advance or checked in etc., so we didn't buy any citronella oil on the way there (which is what wards them off, Deet doesn't work). Hence my wife and I are still covered in their bites. Everyone else staying in the guest house was also covered in bites to a greater or lesser degree.

“Paradise (but the extra's are sooooo expensive!)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We stayed 3 nights in this lovely guesthouse. The location is super: it's close to Galle, but not too close, so the beach isn't busy and it's almost on the beach. The rooms are big. We had a triple room for the 4 of us (2 adults + 2 children).
You will have the lovely beach in front of the hotel with white sand and blue sea almost for yourself.
The food in the open restaurant is good. It isn't the best we've had in Sri Lanka, but it's not bad. But the food is expensive. Ons saturday there was a barbecue and the've charged 2000Rs for 1 person. That's the most expensive meal we've had in Sri Lanka, and it wasn't that good (chicken was burned, tuna was very dry).
You can use the bodyboards and surfboards they have (old ones) but they charge you another 900Rs for 1 day (no matter how long you use them).
Would I go back there? Probably yes (because of the atmosphere and great location) but I certainly would eat somewhere else...

“Absolutly great location and quiet guesthouse”

We stayed for 5 nights at the end of our trip to relax from the previous round tour in Sri Lanka and enjoy the ocean. 7th sky idyll was almost the perfect place to do that, it is in the middle of nowhere at a very quiet beach where nobody disturbs you. Our driver recommened the place to us. The rooms are quite simple, they all have a view to the ocean. We had air conditioning but no warm water. Although the road is just behind the guest house, you hear nothing but the waves at night.
The owner speaks very good English and is really friendly and open. The staff is also really nice and takes good care. There are only few rooms and the atmosphere is very relaxing and familiar. We booked half board and enjoyed the nice breakfast and the great food in the restaurant. They offer a great variety of food and always have fresh fish and seafood dishes which I can recommend to try. During the day you can also enjoy little snacks and sandwiches and drinks also served on the beach.
You can rent surfboards and bodyboards. In case you get bored at the beach it takes takes you about 20 minutes to go to Galle or 10 min to Unawatuna with the threewheeler.
Unfortunatly, we had sandflies at the beach and I still have their bites all over the body so this was a little minus on the almost perfect idyll. Also, during our 5 nights we only had room service once, this was definetly much less than in comparable places we stayed in Sri Lanka. What was most negative for us at the end of the stay was the owners wrong information about how long it takes to the airport. Since we really liked the place we stayed one night longer and decided to travel to the airport in the early morning. But instead of 3 hours it took us 5 hours and we ended up missing our place.
So prepare for the sandflies, plan enough time for the airport transfer and you will have a wonderful time there.

“great experience, helpful owner and staff. A/C available”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

I stayed at the 7th sky for 2 months in winter 09/10.
As far as the accommodation is concerned, there is nothing I could seriously complain about. Considering the prices and the promises made, the location right at the beach (almost literally on the beach), the owner and his staff didn't let me down a bit. The rooms were cleaned regularly, food, including fresh fish (literally, that fish was out swimming just an hour ago!) every other day was just fantastic but still cheap, and most of all, the staff is unbelievably friendly and polite. You can even catch your own fish and bring it to them, they'll cook it for you. Plus, if you're a surfer, you'll love the amazing left-handed reefbreak just outside your doorstep.
Another important reason for me to recommend you this guesthouse is how safe it is. To begin with, the owner has all the most important bonds to the local men in charge, including police officials. Considering we're talking about a country with a highly corrupt police system, it feels good to know this.
Even though there is no real threat whatsoever, there is a guard looking after the gate 24/7. Most of the time while I was staying there, his job consisted in getting rid of drunk locals who somehow got into the compound.
To conclude I'd like to emphasize that this is a simple guesthouse, but it is run with a lot of dedication to make you feel at home. It worked for me, and I'm quite sure it'll work for you, too.

P.S.: To the other reviewers, criticizing...
A: ...the lack of environmental awareness of the staff (i.e. burning of waste in the backyard): Seriously? I mean, this is a serious problem indeed, but obviously you did not open your eyes just once outside the compound walls. This happens in backyards all over the country, so these obviously are educational and awareness issues to be tackled on a much higher level. You can't blame single people.

B: ...having to change into another room during your stay. OK, that shouldn't be. But there are not too much rooms in the guesthouse and the owner sometimes tries to find solutions for everyone by moving people around, sometimes even by making the staff move and using one of their rooms for the clients (as in my case).
