“Simple but exceptionally charming.”

Much to my chagrin, I was booked into this simple hotel that I thought was beneath me, however, from the moment I arrived I was completely under it's spell. It's a simple inn, but what it lacks for in luxury it makes up for in scenery and charm. My room was very spacious, particularly for a European hotel, and had the most adorable French doors that opened up to a petite balcony that overlooked the Rhone river, and when I say overlooked, I mean I could have thrown something into the river if I wanted to. I slept the entire three days with my doors open, listening to the wind in the trees and the river flowing! Delightful!

My room had been updated in a few areas - tiled bathroom and shower, flatscreen tv, but was fairly simple with little decoration, and nice hard wood floors. Common areas were the same way, but breakfast was exceptional, better than the rest of the breakfasts on my whole trip which included stays in four star hotels at $300/night. Breakfast included: croissants, assorted pastries, baguettes, cheeses, cereal, dried fruits, cannelles, pancakes, syrups, nutella, madeleines, etc. The breakfast room sat on a room/patio overlooking the Rhone and the bridge.

A great restaurant for dinner is just across the street. WIFI that worked in the room too! Would definitely come back!

Room Tip: Make sure to get breakfast!

“A very good value”

The room was sparsely furnished, but very clean with a good bed and a large shower. I requested a view of the Rhone, so we had a little balcony, although it wasn't large enough to sit out on.
The owners speak very little English, but were friendly and eager to help. There is free parking at a little garage in the back by the post office.

“A Sunny, Happy Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

This cheerful little hotel has sunlit, pretty rooms. Although the accommodations are simple and old-fashioned, there are thoughtful touches: fine-quality toiletries, thermostat controls in the rooms, broadband internet. Rooms look out over the Rhone toward Tournon's chateau, or into a quiet medieval street. Some are painted in traditional Provencal colors. It is blissfully silent at night. The owners are exceptionally kind and helpful; they genuinely think of the hotel guests as their guests. This is a place to come and relax in a French small town.

“Excellent position by the Rhone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2007

This hotel is in an excellent position on the banks of the Rhone, overlooking Tournon and the vineyards of Tain l' Hermitage. It has recently been refurbished.

Our room had a balcony and overlooked the old bridge to Tournon. The room was well equipped and very clean with an enormous comfortable bed. I would say it was excellent value.

The hotel did not have a restaurant but there was a very good one across the street, called Le Quai, which I would recommend.

The town sits between the Rhone and the N7 which can be very busy although the street where the hotel is situated is very quiet.

This area is the epicentre of the blockbuster Cote du Rhone reds of Tain L'Hermitage and one of the worlds best chocolate, Valrhona.

“River Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2007

In the middle of the Rhone Valley is Tain L'hermitage. Hotel 2 Coteaux is a great location, on the edge of the Rhone River, adjacent to the footbridge which crosses to Tournon. We had a great room with a small balcony overlooking the river and a large bathroom by French standards. Bed was very comfy and room was also generous in size. The hosts were great and helpful with restaurant suggestions and bookings. Recently refurbished we suspected (done well) and we were really pleased with service. Completely non-smoking establishment. Parking is easy on nearby streets and garage also available.

  • Liked — Clean, fresh and completely non-smoking, plus location
  • Disliked — no lift
