“An oasis of peace, quality and refinement.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Martin and Halla have created a B&B experience that can have few equals in terms of comfort and quality. I have stayed away on business regularly since the 1980s and have become more and more critical with age and experience. Woodpecker Barn ranks alongside the very best.
I stayed (single occupancy) in the upstairs suite with its own private sitting room and good quality shower room. The bedroom is described as a double, although the bed is rather on the small side but ideal for one or a cosy two, whereas the alternative suite (bedroom, shower room downstairs with private sitting room upstairs) has a king size bed. This suite also has its own entrance.
There has been much attention to detail in terms of little extras - good shampoo etc, supply of bottled water, quality coffee as part of the refreshment tray etc. Good quality pillows are always a sign of a quality establishment and these, along with a memory foam topper for the mattress ensured a good night's sleep. An extremely creaky floor betrayed every movement in both the bedroom and sitting room, but with no one immediately adjacent, I don't suppose that matters too much. I stayed three nights and took advantage of the evening meal Martin and Halla offer - all excellent and very well presented. Lovely breakfasts each morning set me up for the day.
Overall, I felt that it was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to stay with such accomplished hosts in such charming surroundings and I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Both suites, lovely. Just the variance in bed size to consider.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Having stayed here earlier in the year, my friend & I decided to visit Kent again for 3 days. Woodpecker Barn is certainly a little 'gem'. Martin and Halla are so very friendly and made us feel at home. Both suites are very comfortable and cosy, and hot & cold drinks with biscuites are provided. We had a cooked breakfast each day which was very tasty.

I certainly would recommend this place and I do hope to return sometime next year.

“Wonderful B&B; hope to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

Woodpecker barn is comfortable, serene, and we were treated to wonderful breakfasts on every morning of our week-long stay. The proprietors turned out perfect full English breakfasts with all the trimmings, plus they offered yogurts and granola and freshly baked croissants for those who preferred something more Continental. One morning, we had a particularly treat, a freshly made compote of apples and blackberries picked down the lane. And did I mention the proprietors' apple juice, pressed from apples grown on their property? Best apple juice I've ever had! The proprietors were a delight to chat with and were welcoming in every way, inviting us to sit and/or stroll around their magnificent garden as we liked. Woodpecker Barn was also at the crossroads of several public footpaths, including one that leads ultimately to the local pub. If I'm ever back in Kent . . .

Room Tip: We had a suite with a double bedroom, plus a loft-bedroom for our teen. The bathroom was very well...

“nothing to add, wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

our fourth visit. As Monty Python would say, " nudge, nudge, say no more". A trip to Kent to see children and now grandchildren is rewarded by a stay at Woodpecker Barn. We will keep coming twice a year.

Stayed for 2 nights and can honestly say this place ticks all the boxes!
Accommodation is great, with a private upstairs lounge to relax in with tea/coffee, TV etc. Breakfasts are delicious...cooked to order and with quality ingredients!
The hosts are knowledgeable in the local area and can recommend restaurants, walks, sightseeing etc.
Great place to stay and relax...thoroughly recommended!!
