“Perfect Provencal experience”

I found Maison La Roque(---) through hours of web surfing. I was hesitant at first as the property did not have a trip advisor review - which I typically use to check out a place. However, the location, price, and pictures were more than enough to decide me.

The Maison is a house within a French hill village. The BnB itsself seems to be a couple of the old village houses joined into a gorgeous location. It was a little too chilly on all except a few mornings to eat outside, but there was a lovely courtyard where breakfast was served on warmer days. The breakfast typically consisted of preserves and jam as well as croissants and breads. All delicious.

The common areas were lovely tile, with stairs leading up to the rooms. The room we had was spacious with gorgeous views out the windows, and a bathroom larger than our kitchen at home.

The owner, Mary, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She's British and having someone who speaks English and French was invaluable in our planning. After we left, she even contacted us to let us know we had forgotten a pair of shoes and offered to send them back to the U.S. or to our hotel in Paris (which was our next stop on the trip).

The village, La Roque-Sur-Cèze, is exactly what every movie, book, and tourist brochure suggests a Provencal village will be, except without the tourists. (NOTE: if you're about the night life, this is not the place for you, the creperie closes some time in early evening, and the one restaurant - La Hulotte - is only open with reservation and the availability of madam.) One of the best meals we've ever had was at La Hulotte, where madam prepared an incredible meal with fresh, local ingredients and a wonderful wine from her collection. La Hulotte alone was an experience worth an essay.

As far as location, we were able to take in Nimes and drive around the Luberon in easy day trips and Avignon was less than half an hour away.

I wish I had the time to be more eloquent in this review (and perhaps more organized), but I don't. Suffice it to say my wife and I have been recommending the Maison to everyone we know and plan to stay there on our next trip to Provence.
