“Recommend!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We were greeted with genuine warmth and kindness early as our 9 year old was sick and they let us check in early .Our room was on the top floor with windows overlooking the bastide, the en-suite bathroom nestled on the side. The dinner was the excellent both nights, and a comfort to be able to periodically check on our 'invalid'. The hotel also arranged a doctors visit.
The town is charming, with lots to do in the area- although my husband did most of it solo! Don't miss the Chateau Biron.

“Extraordinary Experience, Excellent Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

The moment we arrived at this mini castle we knew this was going to be a memorable experience. We were greeted with genuine warmth and kindness after a long redeye from Washington, DC. Our well appointed room was on the top floor with two windows overlooking the bastide, the en-suite bathroom nestled on the side. The Friday evening dinner was the best we had in our week long SW France discovery trip, from the delicately prepared foie gras and trufles entrees to the 2 desserts we smartly shared because we couldn't choose between divine confections. It continued for the next 3 days with breakfast in the garden, strolls in the bastide village, visits to other nearby bastide villages and dips in the soothing pool.... Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you just make the right choice. This was both. Don't miss this chance to make your memory of Southwet France unforgettable.

“A nice hotel but tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

I have thought long and hard before giving this review but I don't think it is fair to not be honest.

It is a lovely house in a tiny town which looks fantastic from the outside. The people running it are all so very nice and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant serves absolutely amazing food except that there is usually only a choice of two things for each course (these do change each day). This is fine if you eat foie gras (which I don't) as this is always this on the menu which meant that I was down to a choice of one. The chef (also the lady owner) is extremely talented and produces amazing food (I can highly recommend Bistro 2).

However, the hotel is very tired. It is in need of some money spent on it and some urgent decoration. We stayed at other hotels later in the week where the owners had put so much effort into the up keep of their hotels that they really showed up this hotel. It is a shame as everything else is great but scuffed paintwork, and faded walls are urgently in need of some love and attention. I am sorry as I know that everyone loves this hotel but I was a little disappointed.

“A real treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We had a great time at this hotel-restaurant. Booked a deluxe room and were upgraded to a suite with valley view and wonderful large bathroom with shower cabin and whirlpool bath and twin basins, plus separate wc.

The chateau was charming and the pool refreshing. You could relax in loungers by the pool and have a delicious French breakfast outside on the small garden terrace. Monpazier is a perfect example of a well-preserved bastide town and the centre was only a stroll away. Good shops and restaurants but do book to eat in at the hotel. We had a lovely meal, each course a delight from the amuse-bouche of a shot of garden pea soup onwards. Beautifully presented and delicious. You can book a room and meal deal with the hotel site. Good wine list and a choice of seating in various dining areas, including dining a deux in the turret adjoining the dining room.

Staff and owners very welcoming and helpful and spoke several languages.

A special treat and definitely one to return to.
