“Beautiful setting, exceptional sea view and garden - make sure to chose the right villa”
The Villa Mauresque is not a proper hotel but a private set up of two villas, one on the sea front, the other at the back, each of them offering no more than 6 or 7 rooms.
Make sure you do not book the back villa (Villa Le Palais): it is VERY noisy due to the Corniche road that passes right behing the rooms. We stayed there the first night and were about to cancel the whole 8 day stay.
It is much cheaper than the sea front villa (Villa Les Jardins) but a true robbery as you feel like staying by a motorway.
The sea front villa is another story- just about perfect. Clearly another range. Very quiet, makes you feel like home. We stayed in the Miller room (each room is named after a famous writer) which was exquisite in terms of comfort, style and view.
Relaxed service - don't expect a 5 star hotel service, it is not a hotel: no restaurant (whenever you decide to have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the villa, in the garden, by the pool or inside, you have to mention it first so that the cook prepares it for you).
Kept aside from the crowdy-noisy-lousy Saint Raphael center, the beaches nearby are a little disappointing as for bothe the crowd and the sand. Keep in mind that Villa Mauresque's boating facilities are more for teenagers than sportive adults (myu husband was a bit disappointed to find out that the promised caramaran boat was actually a kid's plastic one rather a proper adult one like a hobby cat etc..). The Centre Nautique is about 2km away.
In terms of restaurants nearby, we much enjoyed La Tortue, right on the beach, at a walkable distance from the hotel, and a couple of little places set on the beach.
Last but not least, Villa Mauresque staff (mostly young German speaking beginners waitresses, very gentle and trying hard and the supervisor Sylvain) were adorable.
