“Hidden gem - perfect place to unwind and relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

I booked 2 rooms at La Villa Mauresque after finding a good deal on Escapio and also reading the previous reviews on tripadvisor. The positive reviews were not wrong - the villa offers stunning sea views in a lovely setting. This hotel comprises of 2 separate villas - the room we were allocated was in the villa closest to the main road. And the room we had - Turner - was amazing! When the double doors opened to reveal a huge chandelier and four poster bed, it exceeded my expectations. And the bathroom attached to this room - newly renovated and with the huge rainforest showerhead was divine. The only comment that perhaps a few more hooks could be added in the bathroom to allow re-use of the towels. Others have commented on the noise from the road but this wasnit a problem for us.

The other people in our party had a room in the other villa - the room was smaller but still lovely. There is a huge sitting room for guests to relax in and each villa came with a pool. Overall the property was a revelation and a lovely surprise - perfect for a relaxing getaway. It was also a perfect location to explore the French Riviera - St Tropez, Cannes and Monaco short drives away.

Room Tip: Turner room is highly recommended

“Absolutely stunning”

We've stayed here on two occasions and will certainly return. The two villas, gardens and views are utterly gorgeous - you will not want to leave. The villas are a five minute car ride from Frejus and there are a few restaurants within walking distance but, frankly, you'll find it hard to tear yourself away from Mauresque.

“Great place to relax, stunning views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

This hotel is really special; I felt like I had been invited into a private villa. The property is comprised of two villas and I had specifically booked the smaller one for it is right on the sea front. A choice I did not regret for we had magical views from our room and from the terraces. We had planed to visit Saint Tropez and Cannes but we only had 2 nights and decided that the hotel’s surroundings and activities would make for a more relaxing stay. I would definitely recommend taking the free kayaks out and paddling to a quite alcove to sunbathe as we did, the water was perfectly calm and the coastline is great to explore. The second day we just enjoyed the hotel’s infinity pool and hot tub, I booked a massage and we ate at the hotel’s restaurant where our table was right on the sea front. The food was very good, lots of fresh fish, though on the expensive side. It was hard the next day to pack our bags and face up to the reality that all this was not home but a hotel.

“Beautiful setting, exceptional sea view and garden - make sure to chose the right villa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

The Villa Mauresque is not a proper hotel but a private set up of two villas, one on the sea front, the other at the back, each of them offering no more than 6 or 7 rooms.

Make sure you do not book the back villa (Villa Le Palais): it is VERY noisy due to the Corniche road that passes right behing the rooms. We stayed there the first night and were about to cancel the whole 8 day stay.
It is much cheaper than the sea front villa (Villa Les Jardins) but a true robbery as you feel like staying by a motorway.

The sea front villa is another story- just about perfect. Clearly another range. Very quiet, makes you feel like home. We stayed in the Miller room (each room is named after a famous writer) which was exquisite in terms of comfort, style and view.

Relaxed service - don't expect a 5 star hotel service, it is not a hotel: no restaurant (whenever you decide to have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the villa, in the garden, by the pool or inside, you have to mention it first so that the cook prepares it for you).

Kept aside from the crowdy-noisy-lousy Saint Raphael center, the beaches nearby are a little disappointing as for bothe the crowd and the sand. Keep in mind that Villa Mauresque's boating facilities are more for teenagers than sportive adults (myu husband was a bit disappointed to find out that the promised caramaran boat was actually a kid's plastic one rather a proper adult one like a hobby cat etc..). The Centre Nautique is about 2km away.

In terms of restaurants nearby, we much enjoyed La Tortue, right on the beach, at a walkable distance from the hotel, and a couple of little places set on the beach.

Last but not least, Villa Mauresque staff (mostly young German speaking beginners waitresses, very gentle and trying hard and the supervisor Sylvain) were adorable.
