The enchanting gardens were a wonderful surprise. The chateau is a beautiful and historic building and we felt privileged to stay there. In England it would be exactly the sort of place owned by the National Trust. The owner was helpful and we were given the choice of two rooms. In the evening we were offered a drink and enjoyed the ambiance of the state rooms. We felt very welcome. But the gardens are the real draw of the place. We had only a short time to explore but were very impressed with the mixture of formal and meadow planting, the sculptures, the quiet corners, the maze, and the commanding view over the surrounding countryside. We loved it, and would certainly hope to go back.
(The ferry port at St. Malo is only 40 minutes drive away.)
