“Absolutely terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

I live locally and can report that I have had a good Sunday lunch here recently but the restaurant is soulless, with tables that are too big, and a dismal outlook. Several English friends have stayed here and all have been very disappointed. The bedrooms and bathrooms are awful with 'minimalist' decor, bad lighting and poor facilities. One couple (paying a rate of €270 per night) had an ensuite bathroom that was down a treacherous stone staircase from the bedroom. If you are an experienced traveller expecting international standards of comfort, do not stay here.

“Wow!”

What a find! We were just looking for a stopover having arrived at Toulouse and on our way to visit Millau Viaduct and I took a gamble on this hotel. It is fabulous. An very old building converted beautifully with a modern twist (obviously not to everyones taste given the other reviews). The rooms were clean, comfortable and air conditioned. The pool was set below the hotel with panoramic views over the rolling countryside and was blissfully peaceful.

The restaurant set in the courtyard was very picturesque both at dinner and breakfast. The food was excellent although we were shocked to not be offered any choice. However the chef is award winning so we didn't really complain. In addition they catered for our fussy teenager very well providing him with a plain steak and some kind of fried potatoes.

We only stayed one night but it was excellent.

“Very classy and stylish - but expensive - place to stay”

This was a memorable place for a short stay - stylish, minimalist interior in wonderful old stone exterior, and very classy food. But a bit expensive for more than a short stay, and not exactly cosy.

“Outstanding Restaurant/Hotel/Wine Chateau”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2009

OK, there isn't a suit of armor in the reception and the rooms aren't outfitted with antiques. The architect might describe his work as "unadorned". But the rooms are spacious and bright, and the restaurant is deserving of its Michelin star. If you are partial to things Medieval, you only need to step outside and look back at the golden stone of the Chateau posed on its hilltop.

The comment about the hard beds in another review caused me unwarrented concern when I made my reservation. They are fine.

The chateau is out in the Galliac countryside with a sweeping view across a valley. A pool is tucked against the cliff below. It is a quiet setting. The staff are attentive and the mood is informal. The Chateau restaurant is outstanding with an abundance of menu options. The mid-week specials are economical. The Chateau produces excellent red and white wines. These can be sampled in their tasting room - or better, at dinner.

We chose this place for our first night in France after our transatlantic flight. It is an easy drive from the Toulouse airport. It was a perfect stting for making the time transition and the cultural ajustment to the nation that produces 246 varieties of cheese.

“Better than many”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

So I agree with most of the reviews. The decoration is odd and the bathrooms are terrible. I stayed in room 17 and the view and size of room were great. Staff was nice and helpful for things to do in the region. Don't eat at the restaurant as it is not that great. Go to Albi. It is only 25 minutes away and there are plenty of GREAT restaurants. However, the location of hotel is good even though it is 25 minutes from the autoroute. Many sights are nearby. Must have a car.

  • Liked — The charm of the old hotel mixed with modern
  • Disliked — no food choices
