“Fabulous escape in Bordeaux...”

A friend and I planned our trip to Bordeaux this past October. Although I heard the city of Bordeaux is supposed to be great, none of the hotels were quite right. Luckily, we stumbled upon Le Clos de Meyre in Avensan. The staff was very friendly. Our room was newly remodeled and very clean. We even had a view of their vineyards. We only stayed two nights and I wish we had planned more time there. Although Avensan is a small town it is very easy to get around the Medoc and the rest of Bordeaux. I would definitely consider staying at Chateau Meyre again.

“Comfortable & Relaxing Accommodation in Attractive Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

We recently stayed at Chateau Meyre for three nights. On arrivall we were warmly welcomed, shown our room and provided with lots of information on the chateau's facilities, breakfast arrangements and local places of interest, restaurants and vineyards. We were aware before booking that the only meal served was breakfast (a continental/cold buffet), that no staff were on duty after 8 pm, that having a car is virtually a necessity and that any restaurant we might want to go to for dinner could be up to half an hour's drive away. In the event none of this spoiled our stay in any way.
The chateau itself is an imposing building set in attractive gated gardens. Our ground floor room was spacious, well appointed and nicely furnished - with a small separate sitting room, ideal for relaxing in after a "hard" day's touring the area! The swimming pool was an added bonus. The buffet breakfast we found more than adequate and a member of staff was always around to help. Throughout our short stay we found all the staff whom we came in contact with professional and most helpful - going out of their way to give us the information we wanted.
Compared to the other hotels we stayed in during our three week tour of France, Chateau Meyre offered good value for money. We would be most happy to return and to recommend it to friends looking for a comfortable and relaxing base from which to explore the area.

“A good location for exploring the Medoc but it could be so much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

The suite we had was in the block next to the Chateau and was spacious, comfortable and clean. However, we had opted for a king sized bed and this consisted of two single beds just pushed side by side with a large sheets across both beds. The absence of any member of staff in the evening meant you could not order a drink and using the hob in the kitchenette was not permitted. There was no restaurant within walking distance of the chateau and quite a few of the restaurants recommended by the chateau were up to 25 km away which we found a real negative. On the plus side, the tables and chairs outside allowed you to have a cold picnic style meal in the evening if not wanting to dine out. We found the swimming pool excellent being of a good size and of a uniform depth of about 1½ metres.
The staff were all pleasant but having to knock on the door marked “Privee” if you wanted anything at breakfast (you were never asked if you would like anything) and being made to feel as though you were being awkward when indicating that you did not feel able to visit 8 vineyard in the time available did not leave us feeling comfortable. If you do intend to visit a number of vineyards do obtain accurate directions to their locations as we found the directions provided by the chateau were confusing; in one case a vineyard was stated as being ‘just’ behind another chateau but it was actually over a mile away and not signposted.
Overall it was a good location for exploring the Medoc but not one we are likely to return to.

Enjoyable stay for 2 nights. It is in good location to explore the Medoc. Lovely Breakfasts. Very secure. Rooms are nice and roomy but quite simple.

“A joy from our arrival to our departure.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

My husband and I and a group of friends have just returned from a few days at Chateau Meyre celebrating my 60th birthday. The whole experience was just fantastic - from the wonderful greeting from Celia on our arrival to our sad farewell to Isabel.
We had constant contact via email with Isabel for months to ensure that everything went well and the trip was everything - and much more than - we hoped for. The staff were amazing, they did everything possible to make my celebration a memorable one. I cannot speak highly enough of them; nothing was too much trouble for them. As one of our friends said: "We were looked after like royalty".
The chateau is on a main road, but that didn't affect our enjoyment - most rooms face the garden. The views over the vineyard are amazing and the gardens, delightful.
The chateau normally only serves breakfast, but Isabel arranged for a chef to cook for us on our first night. It was the best of all our meals. And the lunchtime "snack" they had prepared for our arrival was a feast!
We were so sad to leave and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chateau Meyre.
