My wife and I stayed at the Marriott for one night after staying 6 nights in the timeshare portion of the Marriott.
Check-in: Check-in was quick, with one exception. My wife was getting our things together and waiting on the Bellman to come and get our luggage, and I was going to check-in. Because I had put the reservation in her name, the front desk person would not let me check in, and said she needed to be there. I explained what we were trying to do, however they would not budge. We always use my wife's name on the reservations because she has more Marriott points than I, and I have checked in pretty much every place she's been so I felt this was a bit strange, but I guess rules are rules.
Upon getting to our room, I was less than impressed. I shared my concerns with the front-desk manager, and she couldn't have responded better. She gave me a new room immediately, and really went above and beyond in other aspects to make sure I was happy. I was really impressed.
We then got to our final room, and it was very nice, very clean, and everything you would expect from a Marriott.
The grounds of the hotel are very nice, with 3 pools, and at least 2 really big hot tubs. There are a lot of restaurants, which are expensive as you might expect at a resort, but are good. We ate at La Cucina one night, and I was pretty impressed, though if I weren't at a hotel I would have been a little put off by the price.
The beach is nice. Not the white powdery sand found in some places, but still very nice. The resort is located on the Atlantic side, and while we were there had some pretty massive waves, and we did not see anyone venture into the water while we were there.
In addition to the outdoor activities, the Marriott does have a small casino which we visited sporadically, along with some shopping, including a jewelry store, perfume store, market place, island wear, and an art gallery.
The location of the Marriott was pretty good. The main places my wife and I visited were the south shore beaches and the downtown area, and the Marriott was right between them. We rented a car for a couple days, but for safety reason returned it early. The drivers seat is on the right side of the car, opposite of that in the US. You drive on the left side, also opposite. In addition to this, there are some real "mega" potholes on the island, which if you hit will cost you dearly. When I was in the rental office a man was paying $150 to fix his pothole damage on the car. Even if you choose the insurance, there are deductibles, so it's a risk to rent a car. Taxi's are cheap, $30-$40 an hour, $12 to downtown/port, $10-$12 to south end beaches. I would personally suggest doing that instead, and I'm a car renter every place I go.
Overall I was happy with the Marriott. They had some issues they need to work on, like 3 of the 4 elevators not working for the entire trip, which became a big problem with the 4th elevator broke on Friday, a big check-out day for their timeshares. There were a few small annoyances, which their Managers and Bell desk more than made up for. With nice rooms, great common areas & pools, and great employees, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Marriott for my next trip to St. Kitts.
