“Over priced and far too many flies.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2009

Location is miles from anywhere (is not even on Tom Tom) so if you want to dine out then you will either need to drive to Beaune or take a taxi which costs circa 50 Euros each way. If you eat in then beware - the restaurant is overrun with flies which the management seemed to accept - they said to us "But we are in the countryside!" Indeed the flies ruined all our meals there, even breakfast. Comments from the staff were often strange - I asked if the milk was cold at breakfast to which the waiter replied "put your finger in to see! This hotel unlike many others would not be one we would return too as whilst it has considerable charm, the finer points are lacking.

“Did not like it much”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2008

We felt that pets are more welcome than families with kids - at least our family. Note also that you are expected to have dinner in the restaurant. If you indicate you do not intend to do so, you get a measured "d'accord", suggesting that you are there to satisfy the staff and not the other way around.

The room was part nice, part very bad taste, part past glory - and all that not very well cleaned.

The restaurant, which we did try, was overpriced. Better go the 15 minutes to Beaune where you eat better in a nicer environment and, if you find it important, cheaper too. In terms of location, there is nothing around except farmland. If you come to this region, better stay closer to or in Beaune or west of Beaune (the heart of the wine area), in the mids of forest and vineyards.

Final observation: pay attention where you walk. Dogs leave some stuff behind. I had to clean my shoes one evening, after walking from my car back to the room. I was not amused.....

“Hmmm....not sure”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2008

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding this month and I am very aware of how much was spent on making it the perfect experience for both guests and the couple.
I did feel that the rooms were over priced, or I can speak for ours which had no air conditioning and was in need of some TLC.
Whilst the couple who own it are lovely, I didn't feel all the staff were as accomodating, although this could have been down to a language barrier.
There was a particular waiter who ran around constantly and although he did have a strange sense of humour, for some, he did work very hard.
I was a little bit sickened by the fact that we were in France and the 'house' wine was 49 euros a bottle! Also the lunch which was requested, a mere roll, cheese and cold meats at 35 euros a head felt excessive.
All in all, a lovely place, but could do with some thought!!

“charming country inn”

We were referred to the Moulin by a hotel where I had make a mistake in the reservation. Indeed, it is some 20 minutes drive from Beaune on winding country roads, so you really feel that you are away from the bustle. The ivy-covered main building is surrounded by gardens and old outbuildings that remind you of a farm. The cherry trees were laden with fruit. There is a small outdoor pool. The staff person who greeted us was very pleasant and upgraded our room when he found that the outside shutter (which we would never use) was not closing. Both rooms we saw were relatively small but nicely furnished and each had an upstairs tiny living area with a second tv. The bathroom was very new and spotless, with a large tub. We found the whole place a bit eccentric (in a good way) and absolutely charming. I would love to return.
The hotel restaurant served elegant meals under a canopy by the canal, where you could look at the countryside and hear the birds and frogs. We had an extraordinarily good dinner and fine breakfast there - bread, pastries, yogurt, ham and cheese.

“Needs a little TLC”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2006

We selected this hotel from several web site postings showing a lovely old, ivy-covered building that used to house monks and function as a mill. It, indeed, is an old, ivy-covered building, but not nearly as charming and pretty as the photos would indicate. The grounds are unkempt and the interior of the building is time worn and in need of updating (the artificial flowers everywhere need to go). We had booked a Superior room, but it appeared to be very standard instead. Our friends had booked a twin bedded room and prepaid the reservation, but were charged a substantially higher price upon check in for the separate beds. The location is approximately 30 minutes from Beaune, the closest larger city, in the middle of nowhere, making it difficult to have dinner in Beaune because of the drive back at night on unlit, winding roads. We have stayed in several places like this in other regions in France and Italy during past trips, but felt this hotel was not properly represented in the descriptions. The staff was cordial enough, but did not give the impression that they cared much about the property or providing top notch service. This place certainly has potential and was, most likely, a lovely inn in it's day, but definitely needs some attention. We would not stay in this hotel again.
