“lovely old place needs new owners”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We have visited this place for over ten years now, as we have a house in the area.
It used to be a lovely hotel and restaurents of very high quality and with the best service. We always used to feel very much at home here.
We used to dine here when we wanted something special. I guess the former owners have left because the quality has gone down a lot over the last two years, which is very sad because this place has a huge potential. Last time I was there, my hands were itching to throw out the incompetent personell and at least half of all the clutter and junk.
We went there to dine but we won't come back untill other owners have taken over, which will happen quiet soon I hope. No hotel can survive with owners like these.
Too expensive overall and unproffessional staff. The food was ok but not great. You can get much better in the local, "simple" restaurants.
The night we were there, the staff was only interested in a table full of British clients. Maybe they ordered more expensive wines or the staff wanted to practice their English; they were not interested in serving us at all. We had to wait for 40 minutes for the cheese which in France is completely unacceptable. Next time we will stay at home where the food and service is much better.
This place needs to be avoided until better owners have taken over..

“We were very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

Our expectations of Moulin d'Hauterive were in no way met. Our room was damp and full of unnecessary clutter. The hotel was smelled unpleasant. It is listed as family friendly although our experience was quite the opposite in the restaurant where the service was extremely slow as it was understaffed with inexperienced waiters. We found the whole experience very frustrating as we had expected to enjoy a comfortable break in a family run hotel only to find ourselves paying a lot for a bad experience.

“C'est Terrible ! The most awful Hotel. Unpleasant and extremely rude owner”

My wife and I stayed here for one night (actually some years ago but trip advisor wasn't available then). I am jolly pleased to see that a number of other people have said it is an unpleasant hotel as our experience was awful. The gruff owner M. 'Moule' put us in a room that stank, was not anything like that advertised and then served freezing cold wine and when we asked to leave he agreed a settlement then went back on his word and charged us the full amoun the next day. Rats along the river and tatty all round. If you are English or not French then maybe the owners have a different way aof dealign with you - they certaionly seemed to be happy to do more for their compatriots which is a shame as the french and their hotels are normally very generous and kind, hospitable people. Not here though. Simply Awful. AVOID.

“France at its worst...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

Unfriendly welcome ("we don't have your booking, we don't have asuite for this price"), then the booking is found after all and all of the sudden the price is ok. However, it turns out they really don't have asuite for this price because the so-called "suite" we are shown (a modern bungalow that has nothing to do with the once probably charming mill) is just a normal room with terrible decoration (the hotel altogether looks a bit faded and has probably seen much better and cleaner days) and a tiny TV room with a bed-sofa. My mother-in-law gets a duvet (produced out of a box in that very room, most likely not washed). When opening the bathroom window next morning after showering, a bushel of hair flies in... At dinner, one of the forks was has a chemical smell and extremely unpleasant bitter taste (probably dipped in Javel water and not washed afterwards). We get a new fork, but no excuse. The crowning glory: when checking out we get charged the price for a menu although my mother in law just had a soup, salad and a dessert. Thus, the soup is supposed to cost 23 Euro.. Hello? After complaining, the hotel charges the soup separately but lists another price than in the menu from the night before (effectively charging 4 Euro more). My husband was ready to hit the roof (or the propriétaire, for that matter) and I was close to boiling point too... And guess what: in the end they told us that it was our fault - if we hadn't complained we would have "won" and saved 1 Euro. This kind of arrogance and disregard for customers speaks for itself... France at its very worst, definitely a "no go".
