I wish I could say something that hasn't been said before about the Inn on the Bay. It truly is a gem of a place to stay. Forget the glitzy resorts, and stay somewhere where they really do know your name and genuinely care about what you want to do and see during your stay. Normand and Louise are there for you whenever you need to book a taxi or a trip, or just get some milk for that very welcome afternoon cup of tea (Waitrose brand!!) Nothing is too much trouble, and Normand is eager to help you make your plans without being intrusive.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated - sea breezes kept us comfortable at night. We were in room 4 on the second floor which is a little larger than most, and quite private. It was nice to be able to sit outside on the balcony every morning to enjoy our delicious breakfast, and then to descend the steps (300 I think!) to the private little cove for snorkeling. 6:15 was the time to meet fellow guests and watch the sun set each evening - it was interesting to hear what other people had been up to and where they'd eaten. Although we usually would keep ourselves to ourselves, we found it very easy to relax and chat ...or just listen and enjoy the beauty around us. We somehow missed the socials that some guests mention - maybe we'll catch one next time!
The "roads" are not for the faint of heart. We rented a car, and I'm glad that we did because we were able to explore at our own pace, and it gave us the freedom that we wanted - but the roads are not in very good shape and quite precarious in places. Normand arranged for our car to be brought up to the hotel, and we left it there too at the end of our stay - what service - so convenient and stress-free.
Normand took us down to Marigot Bay each evening for dinner - when you're ready to go back to the hotel you just tell the folks at whatever restaurant you're at to call him and he's there in 5 minutes to take you back up the hill. The Rainforest Hideaway restaurant was excellent - the food at Doolittle's was also very good. They have a new chef, so don't be put off by the older Doolittle reviews that were not very favorable.
As everyone has said, you feel more like family here than just another guest. The little things made all the difference - like being able to get an early morning cup of coffee, or a hot drink any time during the day. It was also very civilized to grab a coffee after dinner and be able to lace it with a dash of St Lucian rum :)
The Inn on the Bay is simply a wonderful place to stay.
