“Beautiful beach but no 5 star experience.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This was our first visit to Anguilla and I wish I had read more reviews before we went. My husband and I look for that "incredible" 5 star experience for our vacations, so for those of you wanting the same, I hope this review is helpful.

Cap Juluca is more like a 3 star experience. Although the beach at CJ is gorgeous, for us, the ambience of the resort and island, the food, the quality, character and luxury of the rooms and the service are also what make the vacation experience "extraordinary" or not. At CJ, the service was warm and very friendly, but the rooms were very disappointing, the food so-so, and the resort was in need of a face-lift. We stayed in a luxury jr. villa and were quite shocked at the furnishings, which were more like that of a 3 star (or less) accomodation, although they charged us 5 star prices ($1,750/night is their villa rate). The rooms were very outdated and well below any "luxury" resort we've ever stayed at.

The food at their high end restaurant, Primm was good (not great) and the setting was lovely, but the food at their other restaurant that serves lunch and breakfast was horrible. On our last day, we drove around to check out the Island and to see their most "pristine" beach...we were shocked at the extreme poverty of the entire island other than the hotels, and we were especially saddened at the trash littered on this "pristine", remote beach. It was downright depressing.

Bottom line, there are other resorts and locations far more beautiful and luxurious in the Caribbean to stay at if you're looking for an "incredible" 5 star experience... Le Toiny-St.Barts, Parrot Cay & Amanyara-Turks and Caicos, Jade Mountain-St. Lucia, are a few examples we've been to and would go back to again before CJ.

“Beautiful beach, great service - Perfect”

We stopped at a couple of islands on our trip and Cap was the highlight of the entire vacation. The beach was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. On site dining was alright (separate reviews for those), but the concierge was more than happy to get us a rental car and we could explore the island. The room was in good condition overall, very spacious and kept very clean. In room breakfast each morning was great. The staff was VERY friendly as well. Be sure to stop into Maunday's club and see Francisco.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have a magnificent beach view - from bed!

“Beautiful beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We just returned from a trip to Cap Juluca on Anguilla. The beach at the resort is gorgeous. In fact, it is probably one of the most beautiful beaches that we have seen in the Caribbean. The resort property is also outstanding but the rooms are a little dated and worn. They are however very comfortable with nice amenities. We had an Oceanfront Luxury on the second floor. The service is variable. Everyone is nice but very few seem to go above and beyond as I expect from a resort at this price point. There are some nice touches like cool towels on the beach along with sorbet in the afternoon and small ice chests of water brought to each lounge chair daily. These little gestures are what should make this resort a stand out but there always seemed to be a little lacking. On more than one day the water was not cold and the chest had no ice. The sorbet was melting and not one napkin was given out with this or in fact with any drink throughout the day. Breakfast is included if you like all carbohydrates. The only offerings without an extra charge are breads and fruit. You did have the ability to order ala carte but again for the cost of resort (around 1200.00 per day) a little protein shouldn't be that much to ask for. Also, the breakfast never seemed to be delivered at our requested time. My husband and I have traveled to numerous resorts throughout the caribbean and I would say the level of service and attention to detail at Cap Juluca is lacking. There were areas that did meet or exceed my expectations such as the arrival team and front desk staff. Also, the attendants in the boutiques were very helpful. All in all this is a beautiful resort with a gorgeous beach with mediocre accommodations and service. If these problems were remedied I would return but as of now I would have to say there are better choices out there.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have better views.

The resort is a little tired, but you cannot find a more beautiful beach. So peaceful and relaxing.

Room Tip: Junior suite was over priced....I would just get the hotel room next time. All rooms are on the be...

“An Amazing spot!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We just finished a trip to Cap Juluca. We were there from Jan 24 - 29 2012. It is really a great spot.

I joined the LHW leaders club and was upgraded to an Oceanfront Luxury room. It was on the 2nd floor and was very nice. A very comfortable King size bed which looked out onto the ocean. The was a generous patio and a rooftop terrace as well. A nice touch although we didnt really use it. The bathroom was very generous and clean.

They do add on 20% in various taxes and charges but the package we were on gave us $100/nite in credit so that was offset somewhat.

Dont be naive!! The resort is expensive. Very! Breakfast in the room was included everyday
Lunch at Blue was between $75-100. We went out for dinner every nite except the 1st nite where we ate at Pimms. Actually it was not more expensive than the other restaurants on the island and pretty good.

The resort is a place to relax. There are no kids anywhere which is exactly what we were looking for. It is not a family place but rather a couples getaway.

The resort itself is very nice. The lobby bar serves up cocktails and has a great view of the whole resort. Sunsets are especially nice. The tennis courts were well equipped and lit at nite too. There are golf carts to get around but we sometimes found that they were not available.

We noticed that the resort had a lot of New Yorkers. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. Just saying...

One downside is the pool. It is terrible!. When I went to check it out I could not believe that the water was green and that it had not been cleaned in god knows how long. There is also not much place to sit. This hotel is about the beach but thats not an excuse for the $$$ that I was paying. This needs to be addressed by the hotel.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are better because of rooftop terrace.
