This was our first visit to Anguilla and I wish I had read more reviews before we went. My husband and I look for that "incredible" 5 star experience for our vacations, so for those of you wanting the same, I hope this review is helpful.
Cap Juluca is more like a 3 star experience. Although the beach at CJ is gorgeous, for us, the ambience of the resort and island, the food, the quality, character and luxury of the rooms and the service are also what make the vacation experience "extraordinary" or not. At CJ, the service was warm and very friendly, but the rooms were very disappointing, the food so-so, and the resort was in need of a face-lift. We stayed in a luxury jr. villa and were quite shocked at the furnishings, which were more like that of a 3 star (or less) accomodation, although they charged us 5 star prices ($1,750/night is their villa rate). The rooms were very outdated and well below any "luxury" resort we've ever stayed at.
The food at their high end restaurant, Primm was good (not great) and the setting was lovely, but the food at their other restaurant that serves lunch and breakfast was horrible. On our last day, we drove around to check out the Island and to see their most "pristine" beach...we were shocked at the extreme poverty of the entire island other than the hotels, and we were especially saddened at the trash littered on this "pristine", remote beach. It was downright depressing.
Bottom line, there are other resorts and locations far more beautiful and luxurious in the Caribbean to stay at if you're looking for an "incredible" 5 star experience... Le Toiny-St.Barts, Parrot Cay & Amanyara-Turks and Caicos, Jade Mountain-St. Lucia, are a few examples we've been to and would go back to again before CJ.
