We first stayed at Hotel La Catalina in October 2010, when we came down to view a nearby villa for our wedding the following year, and again in October 2011, when we came back for our wedding. We absolutely adore this hotel. The landscaping is gorgeous, and the room we stayed in had a balcony with beautiful views over the hotel grounds and out to the ocean. The location is hillside, so you are not on the beach. But the hotel provides shuttle transportation to Playa Grande beach, about a 7 minute ride away, and it is absolutely beautiful! A long stretch of beach, with soft, golden sand and usually calm waves that are good for swimming. I loved the fact that Cabrera is not as touristy as other DR beach locations like Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Sosua, Samana, etc, so the Dominican vacationers at the beach outnumbered the foreigners, which was nice change.

The hotel restaurant has a great terrace with fantastic ocean views, and the food is really very good and good value for the money. On our first stay, we stayed in one of the air-conditioned rooms, but when we came back the following year, we chose one of the non-AC rooms on the condo side because we preferred the pool on that side of the property and AC isn't really necessary in Cabrera in October. In both instances, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The staff gives great service and is very accomodating. This past October, the overflow guests for our wedding stayed at La Catalina, and they all reported having a great experience there. (Thanks, Ashleigh!).

Lastly, they also support educational initiatives in the local community, which I think is awesome. It's great when you find a place you like that gives quality service. It's even better when you know that place serves a good cause.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel La Catalina. I stayed in a very clean, nicely designed, upper level guest room with a gorgeous view overlooking the hotel grounds with the ocean in the distance. I went to bed and awoke to silence other than the natural sounds of birds and a bit of rain. Peace and quiet were exactly what I was looking for on my vacation and I found exactly that at Hotel La Catalina. The staff was very nice and accomodating. I enjoyed daily yoga classes and massages as well.

Hotel Catalina is a very beautiful, peaceful, awesome place to stay. The staff is always making sure everything is done properly and takes great care of every guest as if he/she was the only one they are taking care of. The view is majestic! Breathtaking! The facilities are very well taken care of! The gardens are fabulous! Every place you look is picture perfect!
The price is just right and the food is excellent! Hotel Catalina is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world!

Everything about this hotel is perfect. Gardens are to die for, every room has ocean view. Superior bed, pillows and linens for the DR. Great food, great service, this place is a best-kept secret!

Exquisite beaches a short ride away (make it to Playa nand LAguna Gri-Gri) This is the real DR, forget Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete and head straight to Cabrera!
