We had a wonderful time at the Ludwig der Bayer as part of the Passion Play package: the setting is magnificent, and the air invigoratingly fresh; the bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean, the staff couldn't have been more charming and helpful, and the food was very good indeed. Considering we were a captive audience, they didn't have to try as hard as they did. But we found everyone to be unfailingly hospitable, from the waitstaff who were indulgent with our clumsy attempts at the courtesies in German, to the receptionist who gladly sent my postcards for me.
To complain - as someone else has done - about where they were seated at dinner, is frankly a little embarrassing. We were all on a package deal. Get over it! Had the reviewer followed instructions, she would have found a table set aside especially for her and her son, with their name on it, which was hers for the rest of her stay. A charming, welcoming idea, we thought, that made us feel instantly at home.
We loved the dinner - apple strudel and other German tasty treats were just what we wanted to try. Isn't that part of the point of travel?
In fact our only false note was a fellow American (alas) guest, who having burnt her own toast at the magnificent breakfast buffet, brazenly "stole" my daughter's!
