“Lovely nature setting, some misses, unlucky timing with extremist-group conference”
Orginally given a standard room that looked miserably depressing, paid to upgrade to a rather pleasant, if somewhat small, newly-renovated room. Quite a nice/pleasant feel in the room, and typically Scandinavian (functional). Had I paid full price, I would have been bothered by some misses we experienced:
- Downstairs bar is very charming/cozy with an open fire, but food was really not good - probably one of the driest burgers I've had, and at $20+ it wasn't a deal)
- Free entrance to adjoining Sturebadet bath/gym/spa is nice, but does anyone really pay the $50+ entrance fee otherwise (for a fairly cold "heated" pool)?
- Others have raved about the breakfast (nice views) - a step better than the standard, healthy Swedish breakfast with real coffee but nothing really to write home about
- Personally thought that bedding could be better (lumpy pillows & polyester-ish comforters), but then again that's de rigeur in the region
But the setting is lovely - lake beside is frozen over and you can walk on it, and if you want a nature setting it's great. Didn't try it, but there are buses into Odenplan/town.
Overall though we had an enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, our stay coincided with a conference held by the Swedish-Democrats - a rather racist/xenophobic political party. Bumping into many of these conference guests left us with an unpleasant feeling (even if imagined). Wonder if Radisson considers its choice of conference customers?.
