For ten days in August 2004, my boyfriend and I went on a holiday to Italy with his daughter (15) and niece (13). We spent 4 nights at the Antica Pieve, which proved to be the most wonderful, relaxing place to stay.
The Antica Pieve is a B&B on the outer edges of the Tuscan town of Tavarnelle. Tavarnelle is not a picturesque Tuscan hill-town, rather an "ordinary" Tuscan town for locals and the odd tourist. It's has a handful of restaurants (my recommendation would be the hectic but delicious La Vecchia Piazza, where we ate twice) and bars / cafes, with obligatory delectable Italian gelati! Tavarnelle is very handy for the highway between Florence and Sienna, and therefore a good base for visiting famous sites and towns in the region.
The Antica Pieve itself is wonderful. It's clearly been recently refurbished - the rooms are very simple, but spacious and very clean. There is secure parking for guests. There is a pool and sun terrace that are perfect for idling hours away while resting feet that are tired of site-seeing. Breakfast is buffet-style with local breads, cheeses and hams as well as a good cup of coffee. Dinner is also available if you want it, although we always tend to eat out on a night so didn't sample dinner, but the menus did sound very good.
Antica Pieve B&B was wonderful, we were made very welcome, it was very peaceful and relaxing, and I would thoroughly recommend it. I almost didn't want to write this review in case the Antica Pieve became too popular for me to get a reservation in the future, but I can't deny the owners their success - it would be extremely well-deserved.
