We´ve been in Principe from 18.06 - 22.06.11. A few words can´t describe the perfect small place consisting of 12 rooms, large facilities to chill out, lovely details and incredible cuisine. We call ourselfs "experienced travellers in Italy" since we´re going throughout the country from the north to the south since the last 16 years and we can say that this hotel is one of the top 3 places to stay in. From the very beginning we felt the warm welcome by Sara, Dottore and the whole staff.
Hotelarea : clean, well maintained, quiet, safe, spacious
Rooms : simple, clean, perfect view to Stromboli and Panarea, only the shower is a little small ( in the room we´v been #9 ) and the hairdrier is not the best as well
Pool : big enough, nice view, clean but we missed some more sunshades
Breakfast : italian style, tasty
Dinner : only 2 words - Nino+fish; no need to go through the menu - take the menu degustazione and you´ll be more then satisfied
So we´ll come back definitely

Hotel Principe is situated just outside Malfa as you approach from Santa Marina.

Santa Marina is where the ferry/hydrofoil stops. It is only about 7km or so to Malfa, along a beautiful winding road overlooking the sea. If you want to get to Santa Marina you will need to get the regular buses or else take a scooter, which can be rented in Malfa for 25euro and is a brilliant way to see the island. make sure you see the beach at Pollera

Although some of the guides say that Malfa is larger than Santa Marina, there seemed to be considerably more restaurants and shops in Santa Marina (relative of course as Salina is so quiet).

This was largely irrelevant to us as we were after peace and quiet and in our five nights in Malfa we surely found this in spades.

The hotel has twelve rooms, which all seem to overlook the sea, although the hotel is several hundred metres back from the shore. The view is magnificent though and from our room we had a view down on the village of Malfa in addition to the ocean.

There is a lovely infinity swimming pool and during mid September we had this largely to ourselves some days, which was fantastic. Relaxing in the pool you had the ocean on one side and a mountain on another and in the distance a view of Strombolli and Panarea.

As others have said the owners and the staffare lovely. To sum them up, after checking out we were at the bus stop waiting on the bus back to Santa Marina for the ferry, when Gaetano the owner whizzed by on his motorbike (everyone on Salina seems to travel on one!). Spotting us he did a u-turn and came back shook our hands and gave us an arrivadurci and a grazi. This is only a small thing, but shows the type of guy he his.
His English is also first class.

The restaurant is lovely, but slightly pricey and breakfast is very good and is taken on the terrace overlooking that lovely sea. You can walk to Malfa village in only a few minutes for other (but not many) eating options.

The rooms are all located outside and away from the main building in groups of three. The walls are slightly thin and that is one drawback, but not nearly enough to stop one from going back.

I would swim back in the morning.

A small gem - just 12 rooms, very simple but with great attention to detail. The owners are very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Fantastic restaurant - highly recommended. One word of warning: Malfa is really very small but there is a good bus service from just outside the hotel, connecting you to the rest of the island and ferry. The beach at Lingua is better than Malfa's.

We stayed in June 2009 for four nights. It is a beautiful hotel with views towards Stromboli. The pool area is lovely but could do with a few parasols for shade as it was incredibly hot in June. The breakfast was ample but a little standard after some of the lovely other breakfasts we had enjoyed in Italy. The food in the restaurant is good but pricey and the portions a little meagre. There are, however, quite a few other restaurants within a short walking distance. The rooms are small and dark with the bathrooms being very pokey but we appreciated the outdoor terrace in the evening. We were, however, lucky enough not to have anyone staying in the room next door except for one evening when our balcony was far from private and sitting out wasn't so pleasant.
We loved our time on the island of Salina and enjoyed the hotel it aswas virtually empty and very quiet. As others have said the staff is good and helpful.
Salina is a gem and somewhere we fell in love with.
