“Great Place, worth visiting, beautiful design!”

This "camp" is very luxurious in design. Its really gorgeous. The yurts are lovely and the view from ours was truly magnificent. We told the agent at Camp Patagonia that it was our anniversary and we received a surprise cake in our room after dinner one evening. The hike we went on to the base of the towers was amazing, a good workout.
The only problem with this place is that it is a bit new and it seems like it needs to work out some kinks. The one thing we noticed is that it really isn't geared towards all travelers with disparate desires. We wanted more adventure, longer hikes to see more of TDP. However, when we got there, we realized that these hikes are geared towards two hour very easy hikes, which was disappointing. However, when another one of the guests suggested a hike, we did do it, this was the hike to the base of the towers. If they could get diversify the excursions for the more adventurous, we would have little to complain about!
Also, as I am a vegetarian, the chef made me a lovely menagerie of surprises for each dinner I ate there - it was lovely! And the food and wine overall were quite good.
It does take the better part of a day to get here, so when you choose a package, be aware that you are choosing between 2 or 3 actual days at the camp with the 3 or 4 night programs. The way its presented, its not clear that it takes about 6 hours from Punta Arenas to get to Camp Patagonia, so the first day is spent traveling.

“Beautiful hotel and location but don't go if you want adventure”

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in October. It was pretty expensive - $1900 for the 4 nights each, including food and excursions. It also took us a long time to get there from Santiago - a 3/4 hour flight plus a 4 hour car transfer.
The camp itself is excellent. The yurts are all nicely furnished with comfortable beds and all have a view of the lake. The food was also excellent and the surroundings are stunning. Wine and cocktails are included and they were all good. I should just mention that most of the staff only have limited English (I feel I can't complian as I should have made more of an effort to learn Spanish before going).
Unfortunately we had assumed that we would have the option to do some serious hikes - that is, after all, what Torres del Paine is famous for. This was not the case. The Camp's website is vague on the type of excursions available. In fact most of them involved being ferried around in a minibus for 5 hours which is not what we had expected and feels a lot like being on a school trip. In fairness to the Camp, the majority of hikes available in the park take more than a day and cannot be completed unless you are willing to camp or stay in refugios overnight. We had not realised this when we booked. However, there are 3 or 4 hikes available that can be completed in a day but we were not offered these. Luckily my guidebook mentioned these and I was able to request that we do them. One of the best is a hike to the base of the Torres del Paine. It takes about 4 hours there and back (8 hours round trip). I would say it is of moderate difficulty if you are reasonably fit (i.e. you go to the gym 2/3 times a week). Our guides made out that it was extremely difficult and as a result I think they scared some guests off! After completing this we expected them to offer us another good hike on the following day but no, it was back to a bus trip, and this time they didn't even give us a choice of excursion! We declined to go and after much confusion and angst one of the 3 guides finally offered to take us on a hike around Toro lake near to the camp. It was an excellent hike and I can't understand why they didn't just offer it to us at the start.
The concept of the camp is great but they should offer excursions to suit every level. They seem to have enough staff to do so and given the price I would expect more choice. If not they should make it clear on the website what they offer so others don't get caught out as we did.

“Don't stay here unless you have to”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

It describes itself as a unique luxury experience. it is unique but not a luxury experience.

1. There is a single collection from the airport at Punta Arenas - we had to wait at the airport for 3 1/2 hours - we had no advance warning - there is a single return at 8 00 am and they tend to be totally inflexible
2. The camp is between a 1 1/2 hour and 2 hour drive from the park along bumpy roads which have to be negotiated each day. Note it is not in the park.
3. The only activity offered is trekking and plus limited fishing and cycling in and by the lake by which the camp stands
4. The food is limited to one dish per night, the meals are basic and the service isextremely haphazard.
5. Each trek lasts a full day - there is no prospect of any return to the camp for lunch or a break. The lunch provided is extremely limited
6. The yurts are quite comfortable but far from luxurious
7. This place is run on a shoe string. At the time of our four night stay there were 8 other quite mature guests from 3 different countries - US, UK and Belgium - All broadly shared these views and made them clear to the manager at the time
8. In reality we were all staying there because Explora was full and this was apparently the only real substitute but in so far as it seeks to cater for the top end of the market it will cause disappointment and more mature visitors should read with extreme care some of the more enthusiastic reviews of younger visitors who might have different aspirations - if in doubt book Explora well in advance = all 10 of us wished we had

“Just perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2010

We stayed 5 nights at Patagonia Camp and we cannot rate it highly enough. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our yurt, nr 13 almost on the lake, had the most amazing views towards Torres del Paine and was a little piece of luxury in the wild. After a day hiking in the park, it was such a treat to come back to our snug yurt for a hot shower and then wander up to the restaurant for cocktails and a gourmet supper. We had our own hire car and, to be honest, I don't think Patagonia Camp is 100% set up for guests arriving on their own - it's not very well sign-posted from the main road and is situated at the end of a very bumpy track - however, it's only 20km from the park entrance at Torres del Paine. We absolutely loved staying here.

“A very different place to stay”

This is an amazing place. You stay in yurts (semi-permanent tent, but very luxurious ones with plumbing and hot water). The beds are great, and they are beautifully decorated. Each has its own small balcony, though the wind was blowing so hard the whole time we were there that we weren't able to use it. Some people have complained about water pressure, but ours was fine and water was plenty hot.
The food was great--though not really any choice. You get what they serve. They will make something different though if you are allergic or vegetarian or just hate whatever is on the menu.
The eggs at breakfast were the best I have ever had.
Wine is included with dinner and was quite good.
This is not a place for anyone with any kind of mobility issues. Lots of steps everywhere.
We had our own private guide, but they have guides that take people on excursions every day.
It does take a while to get into the park from here, but this is probably the best place to stay, other than possibly Explora. And this is a lot smaller, which is good in my book.
