“Great appartment with good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We booked independently and stayed here for a week over the Christmas period 2011. 7 of us in a 2 bed appartment on the 2nd floor. Our appartment (928) was on the corner with good views across the Lake. There was plenty of space (4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one with a sauna) with more than enough equipment and the appartment was clean. It was, however showing some signs of wear; the dishwasher didn't wash well and the TV needs to be updated. There is a good sized hallway to store outerwear and boots with a good drying cupboard and shoe driers. Skis can be stored securely in a locker room on the ground floor.

The appartments are well located with a 5 min walk to the nearest ski lift and about 10 mins into the town. There is a bar and bakery within the appartment complex

Room Tip: Choose a second floor room as there is no noise from above and there are lifts available

“Brunkulla Apartments”

The Brunkulla Apartments seems to have so few reviews but deserves more.

We stayed in the two bed apartment on the 2nd floor for one week in February 2011.

The Apartment.....check in was very slow & the staff didn't seem to be very enthusiastic but we were the last of our bus load to check in. The apartment more than made up for the lack of smiles at the desk. Great open plan kitchen & living room which was a good size. The apartment had a well equipt kitchen which was spotlessly clean. Nice size bathroom with a large shower & lovely sauna with under floor heating. Two decent sized bedrooms. Cloakroom with under floor heating & boot heaters helped keep the equipment in good condition & each apartment building has a lockable ski shed so you do not have to take your skis up the the room. There is a lift if you need it, which is very handy. The only incident was when the clean linen was being delivered part way through the week, when we didn't reply the guy let himself into the apartment & I had fallen asleep on the sofa after skiing & lets just say I was not suitably dressed for guests....I am not sure who was more shocked!!!!! Be ready for visitors!

I agree with BizLeuisureFred, request a room off the ground floor, they are definately on show to all walking by.

Location, is a little way from the town centre but an easy walk, pavements are well gritted & with good lighting. The distance to the slopes was a bit more challenging than I would have thought. The distance is quite short but with Ski boots & carrying skis, it feels like quite a distance. After the first few days we had wished we had an apartment slightly closer (we had one of the furthest apartments from the slope & if we had know we would have requested a different room). The restraunt Mungos below the apartments was lovely & their cocktails were lovely.

The town is really nice, the lots of food choices...the food out is no more expensive than the U.K so it was not too painful. The supermarket is well stocked for the nights when you want to cook in the apartment.

Skiing was quite challenging for both our ski levels so Are is definately worth a visit.

Overall, the apartment was great & we would stay there again but request a room closer to the slopes.

“Spacious, adequate apartments - but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Have used similar 8-person apartments during our ski vacation two years in a row now. Even though we are just 5, these apartments are good as they have two showers and four bedrooms. The kitchen is quite well equipped and there is a sauna. Good with lockers for skis etc in the outdoor shed.
The price level, though, is high. If you do not want to clean the apartment yourself, you will be charged 2000 SEK which is definitely not going into the pockets of the cleaner, but into Skistar's pockets.
Another irritating thing is that when booking the apartments at skistar.com, you will just be given the apartment number. No clues are given on where they are - 1st, 2nd, 3rd floor etc. Some of the apartments are just where everyone enters into the buildings. Like living in a fish tank.

“Brunkulla Apts, warm and well equipped”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2008

We have just returned from our week long stay at the Brunkulla Apartments, and would be happy to recommend them.

The apartment we rented was suitable for 8 people and had 4 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. We were a mixed party of 7 and found that the design and equipping of the apartment meant we had everything we needed. We booked through skistar.com the Swedish central ski area web site, which was a well informed, easy to use site. Unless you wish to spend your last day cleaning I suggest you pay extra for the end of holiday cleaning and also pay per person for bedding, or you will need to take bed linen with you.

The apartment has a locked ski storage area, cloakroom area with underfloor heating (pefect to warm your toes on after a hard days skiing), a large living area with table and sofa's and 4 bedrooms. Two bedrooms had a double bed and 2 bedrooms had large bunk beds. The kitchen was well -equipped and clean, and the bathrooms also had under floor heating.

Are itself was about 300m's, a 10 min walk, but Sweden is very cold so it could seem further.! Our childs ski school was at Are Bjornen, a 15 min bus ride. Bjornen was designed for families, and we found the atmosphere and layout fabulous. The down side was the bus which only ran every 1 1/4, so we did spend a fair few hours sitting in the restaurant waiting for the bus. Ski school was only 1 1/2 hours but the only cheap thing we found in Sweden!

Are itself has everything you need, but take a big wallet full of money as it is VERY expensive. A 7km taxi ride was £22. We did a couple of trips and recommend the Moose Kissing - very funny.

My recommendations are: take lots of money, don't go here if you are an expert skier, and make sure you have the warmest clothes. For families the skiing is perfect with lots of interesting family oriented runs, adventure trails and off-pisting through the trees. Brunkulla is a great apartment complex, but you will need to walk to the lifts, and buses. No ski to door here!
