My boyfriend and I stayed at the Atrium hotel in halkidiki from the 19th-28th September as our first holiday together. We chose the hotel for it's relatively cheap price and high star rating. This was our first trip to Greece but unfortunately we did not go at the right time- although the after, ath of the fire was not a problem the weather for the majority of the week was poor, and rained all the time.
The hotel is located at the top of a hill, it was not that bad for us as we are young but it could have posed a problem for older people. There is a bus ride but it only runs at certain times and we just walked rather than wait. There was alot of buiding work next to the hotel, and it wasn't a very nice walk.
The hotel itself looks fantastic. Everything is palacial, and definitwly deserving of a high star rating. The room was amazing- with little extras and that extra special touch that made it so much nicer. The patrio doors and patio was lovely, although our view wasnt great and I would have preferred one on a higher floor. It was cleaned daily, and the only complaint I have is that the shower curtain wasnt adequate and turned the bathroom into more of a wet room.
The food was a bit of a let down. It is of a buffet style, and they do a special each day, but it gets boring after a few days. The drinks are quite expensive too.
As for entertainment, this is the real let down of the hotel. I found it very german orientated, and there was nothing in the evenings. For a young couple we were very bored, and ended up reading and watching TV most of the time. They do amazing cocktails at the pool bar- but if you are not in the mood for drinking or playing pool there really is nothing to do.
Infact, we were the only English visitors at the time, and while I speak German my partner does not, and this can be a problem when there is noone to socialize with outside your group.
The hotel does offer excursions, and my partner and I went on the Mount Athos cruise. WE HAVE TO RECCOMMEND THIS. It was by far the best day of our trip, as you go on a mock pirate ship, and even though it was raining at the time, they went above the standard to entertain us- with a greek dancing captain, a photo moment with a pirate, and even ouzo shots that you had to lift from the floor and drink using only your mouth!
Pefkori itself was nice, but we went a bit out of season- the beach isn't great but there are some great restaurants here- eat as much fish as you can while you're here! Again I wouldnt reccommend going here if you are easily bored.
Overall this was an immaculate, beautiful hotel, with very friendly staff, but for English people there is no entertainment, and no evening entertainment at all. It is ideal for a relaxing break- but isnt somewhere you'll be speaking of in the future.
