“Can't wait for our 7th visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2012 NEW

It has been 8 long months since our last visit but my partner and I will be returning to MLD for the 7th time next week and I can't wait! I simply don't understand some of the poor reviews on this site. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, constantly being cleaned and maintained - I think every time we have stayed something has been changed/upgraded. The beach and grounds are idyllic. The food is lovely and there is such a variety that you can always find something you like - the people who say otherwise, in my opinion, are probably not happy unless they have something to complain about and should just stay at home...best of all though are the staff, they really do make your stay so special (we always tip well but have never felt obliged to do so, or found that tipping is required to get good service, it is however very much appreciated!) - all it takes is a little courtesy and a pleasant attitude and that will be rewarded tenfold - if never fails to astound me how rude some of the other guests can be. I would say go with an open mind, relax and enjoy yourself!!

“Good and Bad reviews are true”

It is depend on your luck...it either hit or miss, and depend on the season you 're going, if it's busy then you're out of luck.

We just went for the beach, and it is the best.

if you like seafood, Fresh shrimps, fresh fish, not the one frozen like here in canada ,the taste is different.
but be aware of the buffets, try to line up for the fresh cook one. it wasnt long wait, to me , you're on a vacation. what's the rush?

try to look for fresh food, because i seen some of the "recycled" from the morning , they just add ham to the french toast to make a new one.

I have to complaint about the plates, very dirty, each time went for the buffet , check out 5 of them , and they are the same, so i use napkins to clean it first , i think they hand washed the dishes.
The Hotel Manager should pay attention to this

Luch at the "Ranchon" have lots of flies there, they should have something to cover it, this is a health and safety issues. one of the server at the grill chicken, used his hand to pick french fries and chicken for us, it is digusting when they use their hand to handle food .

a couple of time, at the beach bar and snack bar, they use the tongs to pick up the straw, when they prepare drink for me. That was very nice. but at the lobby you would never see this thing, i understand they 'ret too busy to use the tongs.

Tip are expected , especially at the lobby bar, you have to flash your dollars, then they 'll pay attention to you, one of the bartender was there ,when i order 4 drinks ,he made me 3 and told me that this is the tequila sunrise , i look at the color, and ik new it is not. just becasue i gave 1 Cuc tip, he 's expecting 1 Cuc for each drinks. ( remember 1 Cuc = 25 pesos, their money).

I like to give tip , but i expect give me the service first then i will tip, i dont like the demanding, but yet some of the ladies at the buffet are very nice, they service with a smile .

I enjoy the night entertainment, we happened to run into 2 girls , look the picture with them, and give them 10 CuC, they were very happy,

we gave 200$ in a week,(3 of us) and please do give those Hobbie cat driver tip, as they worked very hard , they dont get pay by the hotel, they work for cuba marine for something like that, the guy does not speak good english told us. I've seen most of the people from Argentina ,go on the Hobbie cat and dont even give a cent.

if you get there at night, call the goft cart to take you to your room ,becasue there is noway you can find your room at night time, we brought flashlight, oneday we helped some guest to find their room at 11 pm

“Hotel definitely needs some work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2012

We were there in April and this hotel leaves alot to be desired. Although it is "all inclusive", make sure you take lots of extra money for tips, as that is the only way you will get any kind of service, not only at the bar but even at the buffet??? The food was average. The specialty restaurants did not serve coffee or tea? The maitre d' in the Italian restaurant was extremely rude and unpleasant. Someone in our party was injured in the lobby and no one even came to see if she was ok. We tried many times to get a golf cart to pick her up and they never showed up at the meeting place. We did not get bar service in our room (ie, bottled water) for the first 2 days and that was only after we called the service desk. I understand English is not their first language but whenever you needed to discuss a complaint with anyone, their English seemed to get worse. I would not recommend this hotel nor will we be returning.

have just returned from this complex having had the best experience possible. We were part of a party of fifteen.Having never been all inclusive before or to this area before i used trip advisor to get some idea of what to expect.I checked the bad reviews first and thought that many of these were so finicky i wandered what some people expect. We were positioned in the family end on the ground floor( all the wrong places as per these reviews) but could find absolutely nothing wrong at all. Even local gardeners are on hand to help with excessive sunburn remedies, (for a small sum you can obtain aloe vera leaves which when split open gives you enought to coat your whole body if necessary). The Maid service was faultless the mini bar service was faultless, again getting to know the man was a useful bonus. The general staff in the eateries were very attentive to our every need. The a la carte restaurants had an ok choice on the menu which changed weekly. We had a couple of small issues in the room maintenence wise which were dealt with immediately within 30 mins a maintenence guy was there. Our Thomas cook Rep was excellent although there were some issues with airport accesses the local staff are not very good with wheelchairs and there were issues on the plane with the seating for this person in our party. If i HAD to find fault the only thing i would say is that i found the majority of the cooked food didnt reach the buffet counters hot the the selection was mind blowing, but if you queued you could have fresh meat and fish cooked on the grills thuis may take 5 -10 mins usually depending on the queue.Overall an awesome holiday
