“Pleasant stay”

Spent 2 nights in February and had a good, standard inn/B&B experience. We arrived on a late flight (500 pesos fixed cab fare from Merida airport) and the night man, Ray, was standing by to cheerfully show us our room and serve us a drink. Room was large, nicely decorated, with adequate amenities. Breakfasts were good, cooked to order. Pool was small and cold, but refreshing on a hot day. Nice quiet beach just across the street. It's a pleasant walk of about 10 minutes to the center of Progreso, where you can find anything you need (shopping, post office, pharmacy, etc.) There are numerous other hotels and apartments in Progreso, but many of them are hard to find on the English-language Internet. So if you don't speak Spanish or know the area, Yakunah is an especially good choice for you.

“Progreso's Paradise”

There are not enough words to describe the wonderful stay we had at this Hotel.
Gerben and Elke had a vision with this property that shows how talented they are once you step inside the front doors. Then it just keeps getting better from there. We traveled during what is considered low season. We normally hit the ground running, but with this lil plantation style hotel, we would leisure there in the mornings and even return early just to spend leisure time at the pool, read and visit with Elke and Gerben. The local people are overly helpful and friendly. Interesting colonial homes to view while strolling to the restaurants, bars and shops. We are looking forward to our return already. Oh, beware of their killer dog Beethoven, he's about 5 lbs. wet, and thinks he's a pit bull. He's precious.
Thanks again Elke and Gerben, will see you and your friends again real soon.

“a truly amazing find”

We just came back for a 3 weeks stay at Hotel Yakunah in Progreso.
We have been there several times, and every time we come we are more impressed.
The Hotel is located in a charming traditional Mexican beach house and the ‘old days feel’ is combined with modern amenities and an exquisite upkeep of the public areas, gardens and rooms. We stayed in one of the rooms on the first floor. These rooms are very spacious and artfully decorated. Although I had some different experiences with other hotels in the area, the rooms are kept spotless at all times.
The garden is well designed and the pool is the perfect place to relax with a good book.
The biggest amenity of this hotel are the owners Gerben, Elke and their daughter Michelle. They make you feel that you are long lost family from the moment you walk in the place.
Elke is a charming host and make some mean cocktails, ( try her specials with 43, she is the expert in this field) . Gerben is an excellent chef. Since we were around in the low season he was able to customize most of our meals and they all were absolute delicious. We were lucky to witness a ‘mini concert’ of Michelle teenage daughter who has an exceptional voice.
I would highly recommend this place the traveler that expects a level of luxury for a very fair price, and prefers the personal touch and service over the often very impersonal larger chain hotels

“The best hotel in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

If you're traveling to Progreso, there's only one place to stay and this is it. Quaint , friendly... your hosts are wonderful. It has more of a B&B vibe then a hotel. Don't miss Gerben's breakfast. Just a short walk to the restaurants and market, but far enough that it's quiet. We will be back!
