It is a pity this hotel in the last 2 years has changed its very successful format and increased its prices with a deterioration of services and food quality
In 30 years of travelling, I have never had to pay 20 euros a day for the air conditioning control unit e.g 20 euros to use the air conditioning in the room
The TV has only one English channel and that is the "travel channel" after 4 days it becomes very monotonous
There is no English news channel available and when requested was answered and treated with distain
The hotel has many international corporate clients and I believe that is why they charge so much for the rooms-they are nothing special- large and adequate but certainly not user freindly for travellers
If the corporate clients on expenses accounts decided to change hotels-then this one would be in trouble
The real downturn since my last visit (I stay 3 times a year) is the service in the restaurant. You may wait 30 minutes to be given menu- 30 minutes to have the order taken (then told what is not available) and then 30 minutes to get what you did not want
Getting the bill concludes the 2 hours
There are plenty of staff doing nothing- looking good and busy when actually serving no one
Last night I tackled the duty manager who was busy playing Solitaire on the house computer- He apologised profusley and said the hotel was going through a bad time- he then went back to playing Soiltaire
So lets resume: It is now a minimum of 120 euros per night, aircon is 20 euros extra per night (the old price was 70 euros last year- aircon was free)
The food can only be described as average (there ia a bar 50 meters down the road at half the price) this will save you the aircon- can they not see that eating out actually costs them revenue
Service is very poor and prepare to wait
On check out I mentioned my concerns and declared politely that I would stay elsewhere in the future
Amazingly the receptionist did not even acknowledge my comments
Come on Romantica! I feel you have let revenue dictate service
