Great location...bang opposite the Gaudi building...
Hotel seemingly very popular, but fairly low on our scale...dark and a bit shabby-looking...
Room hadn't been brushed-out and it all felt a bit seedy. Staff were business-like but not friendly.
Restaurant looked like a smoke-filled Brown-bar without the smoke (yes, smoking bans are happily in place) ...and depressing...but our guide book said the nosh was good.
Miles better was the restaurant around the corner...
El Capricho....a small, unpretentious family-run concern...(we met or saw them all!)...Very friendly.... and the meal was excellent...especially los anas (?) de rana (frog's legs to you)...spicy and tasty...Highly recommended....(the restaurant.and the frogs...!).
We only stopped overnight, so we probably can't claim to have 'done' Astorga over-much..and it was chucking-it down...but the Gaudi building (the reason for our stop-over) was excellent. The building is a 'wow' even if it wasn't finished (story of a number of Gaudi creations methinks!) and the Museo inside covering local history and the Pilgrim's trail was also good.
The town itself was worth a walk-around and you MUST visit the chocolate museum...Small and simple, but charming nonetheless...The choccie's good as well!!
