“Memorable stay again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We have had the pleasure to stay at Crossways quite a few times.Every time has been memorable, the food and service is excellent.Menus change frequently, local sourced food and special service explaining each course.Breakfast is great-not sure we should have indulged after the previous nights dinner which was excellent. There are various offers at certain times,so enjoy. We will be back.

Room Tip: Balcony room is spacious,we love it.

“Superb hospitality. Fine food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We needed to escape city life (Brighton) for a few days but did not wish to leave Sussex. Crossways was a perfect choice. The hospitality was excellent. The food was very special indeed; on a par with top London restaurants we have dined at.The superior double room was comfortable. We saw the interiors of some of the standard double rooms and they are very good also. When we return we will book a standard double room. If you wish to enjoy a stay at Crossways and are counting the pennies, look out for their special offers in February and September/October. Highly recommended.

“Nice hotel but on main road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

This is a hard review to write because I liked the hotel despite a number of drawbacks.
The hotel is on a busy road. Turning right out of the hotel requires patience waiting for a gap in the traffic.
The room was small but adequately furnished. The shower room (no bath) was tiny and cramped. Nice touches with sewing kit, cotton wool etc being provided. Also tea and coffee although the tea pot hadn't been emptied from the previous occupant and contained a moldy tea bag!
It was very warm when we stayed there and the ceiling fan provided welcome breeze. However, we still needed to sleep with the window open. Being so near the road, even at night there was a lot of traffic noise and although the hotel provided ear plugs, I still found it hard to get to sleep.
The owners were friendly and provided a good breakfast. We didn't eat in the restaurant.
Would I stay there again - probably not.

Thank you for taking the time review your stay with us here at Crossways. We appreciate your comments and strive to act on any suggestions received. The road gets busier all the time and unfortunately there is not a lot we can do about that.

Crossways is a Georgian house and our guest rooms vary in size, fitting en-suite bathrooms into these old buildings is often difficult, but we feel we have achieved this. However we appreciate that a couple of these are on the small size. All our bathrooms have been ripped out and renewed in the last 18 months.

There is no excuse for the dirty teapot, and l understand that you have marked us down on this point. However l hope that you found the cleanliness of the hotel in general of a very high standard as most of our guests comment on this.

WE hope that you decide to change you mind and stay with us in the future.

“No Food on Mondays”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

My employer booked me into this place and after a four hour drive I found out that they didn't serve evening meals on Monday's. It's only a short walk to the nearest pub, but I would expect a hotel to serve food on every day of the week. The room was nice and comfortable, but no separating door between the bathroom and the bedroom area.

Thank you for taking the time review your stay with us here at Crossways. We appreciate your comments and strive to act on any suggestions received.

Crossways is very much a Restaurant with rooms, we are owner operated and I am also the chef and would find it impossible to serve dinner seven nights a week. We do make it plain at the time of booking that we do not serve dinner on Sunday and Monday evenings.

The room you stayed in was a single room and you may remember that the bathroom was down three steps. Health and safety do not allow a door to open directly on to stairs in this situation.

Thanks again for your comments, next time you stay with us please ask for a room with a separate bathroom and we will endeavour to meet your needs.

“Fabulous food and Service!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

We have just returned from a three night stay at Crossways. When we arrived, David met us and made us feel very welcome. We were booked into a standard room on the first night, and a superior room for the second and third night. Both rooms were cleaned to an extremely high standard. The beds were comfortable and there were lots of extra thoughtful touches, ie fresh milk in the fridge in the room to accompany the tea and coffee provided. Toiletries in the bathroom included showergel, shampoo and conditioner.
Breakfast was excellent, with David cooking our exact requirements to order. As for the evening meals, the restaurant serve an amuse bouche with your pre-dinner drink. There was then a choice of six starters. This was followed by a home made soup with home made rolls. Then there was a choice of six main courses, followed by an impressive array of home made desserts, coffee and petit fours. The food was excellent, and both David and Clive took time to explain each course and to have a conversation with all the guests.
We would highly recommend Crossways. The Hotel is situated in lovely grounds, set back off a main road between Eastbourne and Brighton. If you enjoy good food, you should really enjoy Crossways.
