“disappointing”

First time staying at the Iliada hotel, seventh time in Protaras. Had seen the hotel whilst holidaying in Protaras previously and was impressed with all the reviews i had read, therefore decided to book for myself and my teenage daughter on a bed and breakfast basis.
On arrival reception staff quite friendly, no help given with luggage. Allocated a room (215) on the 1st floor, overlooking the reception and bar area. Our first night there proved to be very noisy not only was there loud music coming from the local bars but also all the noise from the hotel bar.
The bars tend to close around mid night but unfortunately the same cannot be said about the hotel bar. One very loud guest could be heard laughing until 1.30am and after complaining twice about the noise she eventually went to bed. Due to noise level keeping us awake, the following morning we asked to be moved. The reception were very understading about the matter and immediatly agreeded to move us to a differnet room. Both rooms we stayed in overlooked the hotel next door so the view wasn't great although the beach could be seen.
On first impressions the hotel looks nice from the outside but inside is a little dated and the carpet around reception area, quite dirty.
The rooms were quite spacious put prehaps a little basic. Perhaps due to us going on holiday at the end of the season the rooms seemed a little tired, i.e. peeling paper of skirting boards, dusty underneath beds and a lock hanging off the patio door. The ariel from the television looked very unsafe and also the patio table which was white plastic looked years old and was filthy.
On a positive note the maid service was very good, as they cleaned everyday. ( except under the beds!!)
The pool looked nice but was quite shaded , there were ample sun loungers however these were not very comfortable. Several guests at the hotel could be seen sunbathing on the beach sun loungers which incurred a 2.50 euro charge.
The hotel is in a fantastic position, right on the beach which is beautiful. Watersports are excellant.
Fortunatly my daughter and I were bed and breakfast , which ment we didnt have to eat at the hotel at night, we were quite glad about this as the breakfast wasnt great!
I felt that because we were not on a all inclusive basis we were penalised as the cost of drinks in the hotel were absolutely ridiculous. 4 euros for a glass of diet coke and 7 euros for two terrible cups of coffee.
This hotel is not as good as i expected, the holiday cost quite a lot of money and i felt it wasn't good value as i have stayed in a lot better hotels in the area for less.

Room Tip: As far away from reception area as possible, and if possible a room over looing the beach at the bac...

“OVERBOOKED,BUT HOTEL DID GOOD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We arrived at the hotel iliada at 3am on a Monday morning, booking in was quick as you would expect for the time of the morning. Got to our room (017), it was pleasant enough and crashed out to sleep. Awoke early, bottles crashing and just a bit off noise, looked out of our balcony at next door hotel refuse skip, and yard. Went to reception at 8.30am and complained and was told to come back at 10.30 because of no manager had arrived.
At 10.30 there were quite a few couples at reception with problems of some sort. After a few hours the hotel offered us to go to another hotel (Vrissiana Beach) which was two hotels away with an A/I package for the rest of our holiday, but we had to stay in the Iliada until Wednesday and then go Vrissiana beach for four nights and return to the Iliada with the outcome to a better room. The room 124 was a great deal better nice view, sea side view they call it and my wife and I didn’t complain at all.
About the hotel, yes it is dated has other reviews have stated but the hotel has a warmth, the staff are great, hardworking, happy smiling in their work so the hotel has a soul, not like some that I have been too. The pool is of average size, but, you have the Med right on your door step. Food in the hotel is of good standard and I didn’t have trouble finding a main meal in all our stay. Plenty of courses to choose from. The pool dining area and bar served you politely, and the food was what you except from this hotel.
All in all, yes the hotel was overbooked but no fault of this hotel but of the main Tsokkos Group booking office that put the hotel in the predicament it found itself with many guests. This is a popular hotel with many people who come back time and time again. My wife and I enjoyed our stay at The Iliada Beach, after all that had happened.

“Annette, Maurice and James - visited hotel for 14 years!!!!”

We have just returned from our annual obligatory 2 weeks at the Iliada hotel. We had a fantastic holiday as we have had for the past 14 years. Special thanks to Georgina, Augusta and Elena for sorting out our lovely room and all their assistance throughout the 2 weeks. Thanks to Costas the chef for the lovely food each night and making our favourite bread and butter pudding on our last night. Our room was cleaned to a high standard every day so thank you to the lovely housekeepers for looking after our room so well. Our only disappointment this year was that Makis and Savvas were not working in the bars as previous years as they had to take annual leave. Both Savvas and Makis were missed greatly as we found that there was no atmosphere at the pool bar and the Armonia Bar and so spent our evenings at Rockafella bar where they had good entertainment (another thing lacking this year). Thank you to Ramona who ensured that when we went to the Armonia bar we had the drinks we liked the way we like them. Without Ramona we would have been dying of thirst, she really works very hard and is a lovely young lady. The resident entertainment ie waterpolo etc was non existent this year which is a shame as we all fondly remember the match last year when staff played guests - hilarious!!! We will return next year although I sincerely hope that the key staff will remain in the hotel as they help to make our holiday perfect.
