First time staying at the Iliada hotel, seventh time in Protaras. Had seen the hotel whilst holidaying in Protaras previously and was impressed with all the reviews i had read, therefore decided to book for myself and my teenage daughter on a bed and breakfast basis.
On arrival reception staff quite friendly, no help given with luggage. Allocated a room (215) on the 1st floor, overlooking the reception and bar area. Our first night there proved to be very noisy not only was there loud music coming from the local bars but also all the noise from the hotel bar.
The bars tend to close around mid night but unfortunately the same cannot be said about the hotel bar. One very loud guest could be heard laughing until 1.30am and after complaining twice about the noise she eventually went to bed. Due to noise level keeping us awake, the following morning we asked to be moved. The reception were very understading about the matter and immediatly agreeded to move us to a differnet room. Both rooms we stayed in overlooked the hotel next door so the view wasn't great although the beach could be seen.
On first impressions the hotel looks nice from the outside but inside is a little dated and the carpet around reception area, quite dirty.
The rooms were quite spacious put prehaps a little basic. Perhaps due to us going on holiday at the end of the season the rooms seemed a little tired, i.e. peeling paper of skirting boards, dusty underneath beds and a lock hanging off the patio door. The ariel from the television looked very unsafe and also the patio table which was white plastic looked years old and was filthy.
On a positive note the maid service was very good, as they cleaned everyday. ( except under the beds!!)
The pool looked nice but was quite shaded , there were ample sun loungers however these were not very comfortable. Several guests at the hotel could be seen sunbathing on the beach sun loungers which incurred a 2.50 euro charge.
The hotel is in a fantastic position, right on the beach which is beautiful. Watersports are excellant.
Fortunatly my daughter and I were bed and breakfast , which ment we didnt have to eat at the hotel at night, we were quite glad about this as the breakfast wasnt great!
I felt that because we were not on a all inclusive basis we were penalised as the cost of drinks in the hotel were absolutely ridiculous. 4 euros for a glass of diet coke and 7 euros for two terrible cups of coffee.
This hotel is not as good as i expected, the holiday cost quite a lot of money and i felt it wasn't good value as i have stayed in a lot better hotels in the area for less.
