“A Hotel in Decline..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Firstly i wrote a review back in July after i got back from holiday but for some reason Trip Advisor did not upload it, so heres to trying again.

My partner and I stayed at the Virissiana from 22nd June until the 29th June, for the week before our Wedding Day at Capo Bay on the 30th, with 15 of our friends and family.

We highly reccomended this hotel as we stayed here two years ago after it had been refurbished and modernised. We already knew of the noise from the Bliss Bar/Ghetto Bar at the top of the road so we were preppared for this, if you are easily affected by noise then this is not the hotel for you. The music goes on until approx 2am.

I was dissapointed by the general upkeep of the hotel as two years ago it was immaculate. The bar stools at the balcony bar area were coming apart, various rooms have wallpaper falling off and some sheets and quilts were dirty. The pool area was kept very clean and during the week was very nice and relaxing. The majority of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly especially the waiters and waitresses, although the reception staff took a while to sort out problems and did not keep you informed of progress.

Again as we had stayed here before we were aware of locals congregating around the area at weekends, two years ago they were restricted to certain areas of the bar and to the grass areas of sunbeds they were not allowed around the pool area. This year however the hotel seem to have relaxed this rule as it was difficult to get served at the bar and the locals were using the sunbeds around the pool and the pool itself which was dissapointing. Other hotels also let locals in the grounds including Capo Bay but control it much better.

The quality of food in the evenings was also quite dissapointing in comparision, I felt the quality had deteriated. As with any all-inclusive hotel, eating in the same place each night can get boring. Each night there was a different menu but this was repeated on the same days the following week whereas it used to be different the following week which was refreshing. The breakfast is your typical hotel buffet food with 'fake' english sausages, cereals, fruit, croissants and bread. Also this year they now have an omelette stand but I did not try one.

Lunch quality is very good. The best meal of the day. The all-inclusive menu is strange though as some meals are not included despite being cheaper than ones that are. As in other places in Cyprus the amount of food you get is too much and a lot of it is wasted but at least you wont go hungry at Lunch!

All in all a good stay with some niggling problems, 2 years ago I agreed that this was a 4* hotel, I am now dissapointed to say that I would only rate it as 3*.

I am a travel agent and travel to three or four hotels a year, can honestly say this is one of the best hotels being a four star that i have stayed in.
Food was fantastic and different each night,i hate buffet food but food was so intresting and well cooked that it was lovely, staff were so friendly and helpfull too.
We moved from the constantinos the great hotel due to old guests not being happy as we had a 6 month baby with us(terrible i know)but to be honest the constantinos is ony nice if you are 60 plus, constantinos ok but the guests who go there seem to hate kiddies.
the pool are of vrissiana lovely too and the rooms quite trendy, maids were always in an rooms were spotless.Beds are very comfy too
building work to the side but not too noisy,i was there in october 2011 and having a baby we never really saw building work.
lovely hotel and i would travel again there no problem.

“Perfect place to relax & recharge.”

I stayed with a group of four in the first week of sept 2011, we were upgraded from 3* Silver Sands to 4* Vrissiana hotel due to double booking, All i can say is that, iv'e stayed in S sands & Vrissiana and found both very good.
After a week in Silver sands in 2009 i really enjoyed everything and returned in 2011 for a repeat perfomance. After 2 days in in Silversands 2011 we went to Vrissiana for the next 5 days.
I found the hotel and bedrooms to be spotless, comfortable and the food far better than average. We ate out every evening in the many varied and good for value restaurants and wound up back at the hotel for a night cap. I really enjoyed my stay here and found the staff very professional. Water sports on beach were great fun and would recomend hotel and resort to most. Only snag was late night music from Gheto bar, didnt bother me but young families beware. All in all exellent holiday.

“Good Location Overated Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Sorry for the late revue, the reason being we are still in dispute with our travel agent over this holiday.
Our Group booked our holiday on a all inclusive package in the Constantinos the Great, Protaras.
On arrival at the Hotel on the 18/09/2011 we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and we were to be moved to the Vrissiana (see my report on the Constantinos Page)
Due to our party being dumped from what was to be a Five Star Hotel into a Four Star Hotel it is very hard to give a honest opinion on the Vrissiana but I will try, the first thing to mention is that a new Hotel Complex is being built next door and looking at the site I would think that it was impossible to finish the site by April 2012 as forecast, If you book this hotel and are allocated a odd numbered room you will be facing the site, they work six days a week, while the noise is not excessive you will still hear bumping and banging all day while you are round the pool, It is also unsightly. We had room number 130 it was quite spacious and bright, the furnishings I would describe as Flat Pack but clean, one of the first things that I noticed was our room had two sets of double glazing, we soon found out why, at the end of the same road the hotel is on, approx 80mtr is a Bar called Bliss (part of the Tsokkos group) and the start of the other music bars on the main street, the music goes on until the early hours, the double/double glazing helped but you can still hear the music. I noticed it was the last three rooms on each level that had this fixture. Our group only had breakfast in the hotel it was ok with a good choice, one of the problems was that they had a trouble replenishing the food, as well as running out of cups and glasses .
The Hotel caters for weddings, during our stay we counted eight, this can cause a problem for the remaining guests, when a wedding is to take place almost all of the lounge and the only bar in the hotel,( bar the pool bar) is partitioned off, also the staircase that doubles as the emergency exit. Guests were asked to use the lifts rather than the stairs, under normal circumstances that would have been ok, only for the fact that when we first arrived the lift jammed between floors with seven passengers on board, the fire brigade had to force the doors open for people to climb out, this made people very nervous of using the lifts, the other problem is if you are at the pool and you have any rain or in our case a thunder storm, you have no were to go other than your room. This Hotel was pushed onto our group and you can plainly see why they overbook the Contantinos in order to help the Sinking Ship,( as it is known by some members of staff) Our group do understand that Five Star and Four Star Hotels in holiday resorts are not of the same standard as major city centre hotels, all I can say about the Vrissiana is that it struggles to reach a three star let alone a four star. We would never in our wildest dreams have booked a Hotel like the Vrissiana. Due to this experience it is almost certain we will not go back to Cyprus again

“What a difference”

The first time we stayed here,my wife and I liked it so much on returning home immediately booked for the following year. Our friends who we met there also did the same.Second time round on AI.everything perfect again.News broke the hotel was being taken over by Mr Tsokkos who owns half the hotels anyway.Booked again to return the following year.Third time, upon arrival what a difference,we now know where Shergar is-in the lobby at Vrissiana, part of the refurb we were told.Change for the worse, staff indifferent, management attitude couldnt care less,. we have your money Needless to say we havent been back

Room Tip: Make sure youre seaside if you want any sleep.Last stayed here in 2007 but cant go back that far
