The customer service was lacking. We checked out and had to carry are own bags, never was offered any help or ride to the train. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel, only as we were leaving were we told one was gourmet, and the other was not. The wireless Internet worked well in the lobby, but there were constantly 10-20 flies that landed on us as we were surfing the net, especially at night. The employees were not rude, just uninvolved in our stay. For a 4 star hotel, this was more like a 3 star, or less. The food was good, but had we know about the more casual restaurant, we would have gone there instead, we did not want anything fancy. The scenery in the area was great, green and hilly, but at night around 7 PM everything was quiet and boring in the town, few places to eat.

We decided to stop for the night in Appenzell, with no prior knowledge of the town. Went into the Santis, which is located in the main square, and asked for a room. The lady at the front desk showed us a large and beautiful room. And then booked dinner for us in the hotels restaurant, which was a truly unforgettable dinner (atmosphere, service, food and wine). Appenzell is a place to remember, thanks to the Santis.

I stayed at the Romantik Santis Hotel for 3 nights in July. What a lovely place! The hotel is right on the main square but this is a small town and there was not much traffic so noise was not an issue at all. The staff was incredible - friendly, knowledgeable about local transport, places to see, how to get there and back, and particularly helpful in dealing with their guests. The room and bathroom were spacious, immaculate, and nicely furnished. The town is small and picturesque, with the traditional painted fronts of the buildings - including the hotel - a real plus. I would definitely stay there again!

We traveled with our two school-aged children. We are glad we chose Hotel Santis as our home-base there. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were absolute feasts! Our kids' favorite feature was the massage chair in the lobby!
