“Bungalows by the Beach”

Tubakula is a decent distance from the nearest township of Sigatoka, by public transport back and forth is easy and reliable. Best value option are the intercity buses, Sunbeam and Pacific Express, about FJD$2-3 one way in luxury AC buses. Minibuses are also a good option. Taxis are the most convenient and taxi stands are close to the supermarkets and markets in town but beware drivers who will try to rip you off. Insist they turn on their meters and you should be fine.

The private bungalows are fully self contained. General layout is a loft bedroom on the top floor, with the main bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, lounge/dining area downstairs. Covered porch for outdoor entertaining. Shared laundry facilities are found beyond reception and are minimal, no washing machines, but each bungalow has a private clothesline outside.

Bathrooms are modern and spacious as well as very clean. The whole complex in fact, including bungalows and the grounds, are kept in great condition. Large walk in shower. Reliable hot water too, as its heated by gas heaters contained in each bungalow.

Kitchen was large and spacious and had everything required to cook your own meals. Two-burner gas stove, good range of pots and pans as well as kitchen gadget, dishes, utensils. Also a handy addition was a selection of storage containers in several sizes, god for storing your kitchen supplies (ants are not an issue unless you leave food scraps lying around). Two-door fridge, not a bar fridge. Reception has a small selection of essential groceries you can buy but otherwise go to town and you'll find everything you need at the 2-3 supermarkets and the fruit & veg market. Highly recommend the cheap and plentiful seasonful fruits, good quality and range as well as prices because this area is known for its agriculture.

Very reasonably priced, especially when compared to the much more pricey resorts just down the road. Beautiful beach, good for snorkelling, various tropical fishes, snake-like sea cucumbers, bright blue starfish, and also spotted a sleek white and yellow sea snake.

I have stayed here twice so far and was both times generally impressed though noticed a decline in the quality and condition of facilities over 6 months. the free snorkelling equipment had become worn and damaged and hadnt been replaced. Seals on our fridge were past their lifetime and had trouble closing the fridge. That would be the only complaint I have. Otherwise, good value, friendly service, and very good amenities mean I will definitely return myself and happily recommend, especially to those who prefer to explore on their own and their own pace, and cook for themselves. Recommend attractions, Kula Eco Park across the road, and the Sigatoka Sand Dunes, a National Heritage Park where their have been significant archaeological finds.

Room Tip: Roadside bungalows get a little traffic noise from the highway but are still excellent value for mon...

I stayed here in november 2011 for a few nights with my husband and mother in law. Whilst it's not the nicest or best accomodation i've stayed in, you get what you pay for, if not more than you pay for. The rooms are insanely cheap, we stayed in a poolside bungalow for $50 a night. The rooms are self contained, but there is also a little cafe on site if you don't feel like cooking.
Whilst a previous poster pointed out that you arent central to many things, it is not hard to get anywhere. buses come regularly, and the taxi driver (jonny) who is called by the staff there is really nice. if you wish to hire a car coastal rental company are just up the road at Korotogo.
it is a short walk along the beach to the outrigger resort which has a few different restaurants, and if you continue past outrigger there are a few more cafes and bars.
When i was there the beach was wonderful, the water temp was good and the water was really clear. there was plenty of coral and ocean life to look at.

“Out-of-date and not a good location”

I stayed in Tubakula with my wife in Ocober 2011.
Our bungalow was old and not maintained; especially outdoor metal chairs were rust.
Sandy beach is only for sunbath, since water is too low for swimming, even at high tide.
Sea in front of Tubakula is full of slime because of near river and there are no corals and there is very few fish. After heavy rain the whole bay in front of Tubakula is brown and grass near bungalows is full of frogs. Perhaps the Coral coats in was nice 20 years ago, now is more like coral cemetery.
On the other hand the Lodge is Remote and you need a Taxi or Rent a car for any trip in the region.
The most beautiful thing in Tubakula was very friendly cook.

If you want to enjoy Fiji visit Islands, especially Yasawas where we have wonderful time.

Room Tip: If you find yourself there ask for beachfront bungalow

“Great value for money”

We stayed on the beachfront. The views were wonderful, beach and lagoon just steps away. The bungalows are basic but comfortable and great value for the price. The restaurant is a must visit, excellent pricing and very very good food, well prepared, presented and the service is great.

The facility was quiet whilst we were there, which made for a very peaceful couple of days.

Room Tip: Make sure you reserve a beachfront bungalow!

“been to 3 places in Fiji, Tubakula is best. easy transport, beachfront beautiful, Quiet, best value price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

If you hate being rip off by 5star hotel and don't like being treated like in a zoo; then Tubakula is what u want.
Quiet..clean.. beachfront...
we went in high season,July. eventhough most of the Bungalow is filled, u won't even hear the neighbour. All Bungalow is standing on its own. not like the sardines style 5 star resorts.
I can't find ANY other place in fiji that has a beachfront bungalow and have a great price like this (nxt door Beachfront Outrigger resort charging Aus$600, I almost fell off the chair). BEACHFRONT Tubakula is better than in the pictures. No picture can capture the beauty of being beachfront yourself.. it's SOOO worth it (A$90 at wotif.com).

Snorkling at the front beach. (front desk has pictures of all fishes u can find. including sea cucumbers that looks like snakes! :)
Friendly receptionists had all the time in the world chatting to u... regarding the snorkeling, transports n bus timetable, spa appointment, cheapest tour, all tips u ever want). Gay is a great newzealander lady staying there managing the hotel.
bus at the door step (10min F$1.15busfare to Sigatoka).
Eco park is accross the road.

We stayed in 3 locations. Vuda point (20min north Nadi), Coral coast and Plantation island. I think next time we come back, we're gonna go to Coral coast straight away.
Coral coast is closer to All activities and the Inland tour (Navua river tour: namuamua the best), and still close enough to Nadi for biggest shopping.
The beach in Coral coast is better than the west coast (Nadi or Vuda point).

the transport is easy from Tubakula.
We can go to Nadi by stopping the van on the road.
First we go to Sigatoka by Van (F$1.20) 10min ride . Then Bus/Van to Nadi is $8 from Sigatoka, about 45-60min ride.
The Sun coach and Pacific bus will take u express in Aircon bus. pls check timetable from reception.
Shopping in Sigatoka is good too (better than Lautoka). Plenty of arts and crafts like the ones in Nadi. The best price is to buy in the Wet market itself.
Bananas about F$1-2, Sweet papayas F$1 perbag (Aus 50cents).
Massage at Zen spa on top of Jacks Sigatoka about F$60 (A$35)/hour.
(Ask Gay of their phone no.).
We bought slow cooked Lamb Shank at the restaurant nxt to the wet market. F$5!! (A$2.50). soo yummy, soft and flaky. better than sydney restaurant that charging $30.
Take away a few of them to reheat it in our bungalow.
a few Indian Bhaji costing 30 cents (15cents Aus)

And the pizza is a surprise at Tubakula.
It's really good ! It taste like Italian gourmet pizza in sydney. it's addictive.
F$16 (A$9) for small one (12inch) and F$21 for large (maybe 14-15inch?)

There is a good TV reception in the dining room which the kids gather everynight watching Cartoon network, eating pizza.

The downside :
Steak was not as good. dry and overcooked. Next time tell them how to cook a rare steak "just 2min in eachside and leave it on the pan with fire OFF for 5 min... cook it last , just before bringing it out...." :)

No kayak.. or water sports.
u gotta go to Outrigger (10min walk) to borrow their canoe.

No kids club.. but plenty open space to kick a ball, cricket, swim, swing in hammock etc..
with the beach just steps away, u don't have to make a trip. they just went off.

Try to familiarise yourself with the water heater. Ask hotel staff. During the 3nights we were there, we didn't have to touch it. but the last night we had to move, we had to adjust it. Also No Shampoo provided. only soap and plenty of it too..

No microwave. only stove and pans.

No hammock at beachfront. only near the pool.
We brought a plastic table cover. Lay it at the grass front door near the sands under the coconut tree, lay our head on pillows, with book and beer in hand.. what more could u want..? :)

On the Last night there was a big wave rushing to our front porch. But only happens twice in 20min. It's Enough to make the staff panic. They come with their trolleys, moving our stuff to the pool bungalow. They refund the price difference.. in a form of shopping credit to buy beer etc.. from their shops , which is nice of them..

Despite all of that I still recommend the beachfront bungalow. U just can't beat it..
I'll take the chance again nxt time.. coz u can always move back the next day when the wave is not big.. (apparently this is very very rare)

Beware of Taxi driver around Nadi..
i don't mean to be racist, but the Indian ones seem to have a tactic to increase the price as soon as u sit in their taxi. eg. from $10 they'll ask for extra $5 coz petrol is expensive nowadays.. from $60 to be $75.. etc.. finally when that happened again, we just keep quiet and not agree/disagree with them.. when it was time to pay, we just said, we don't have anymore money than the one he agreed on before we get on the taxi.

Room Tip: beachfront best
