Dominica is the "Nature Island of the Caribbean" and Herta's Sister Sea Lodge fits into this heavenly place on earth.. As a graphic designer I have a stressful job and that's why I enjoyed the quietness in Herta's tropical garden where the lodges are located. With only a few foot steps to the sea we loved having a swim before breakfast. Allthough located at a quiet place the infrastructure is really good: it's a half-hour walk to Portsmouth (or 10 min by bus, which is about EC$1,00). But you don't need to go that far: a supermarket, a market with vegi/fruits, take-away food, asian restaurants etc are very close.
I would really recommend to have dinner at Sister's restaurant! The food was served on a banana-leaf (have you ever seen this before??).
A short excerpt about Herta: She is a lovely woman and I allways enjoyed listening to one of her stories (she knows about everything and she experienced so many things in her life). And she knows everything about Dominica as well which is really helpful with planning trips or seeing things no regular tourist would see. It was her we went to the friday night's "Jump Up" into the "ghetto" where the locals party all night. We didn't meet other tourists but felt quite safe in her company (and felt without her as well as we went there the next friday ;-) ...).
The lodges are great: way bigger than you expect from the outside with a kitchenette, two king-sized beds, a loungy area with a couch and a bathroom with a shower and (we never used it...) a sat. TV set – what more do you need ;-)
All in all Sister Sea Lodge is a great place to stay! I would really recommend it! Feel free to contact me for further questions!

My friends and I, we had a great time at Sister Sea Lodge. Harta servered lovely fish and octopus on a big green banana leaf. Amazing. She gave us a lot of tips and hints. A very caring and loving person.
We will come back to Sister's as soon as possible.
Maybe we'll see the green flash one day.

PS: We had neither problems with our king-size beds nor with ants. No idea about which accommondation the previous comment is talking about

“Poor Establishment”

We stayed in Dominica/St. Lucia for three weeks, at a total of five different locations, and this one was the worst. The bathrooms in the bungalows are very neat, the food on the banana leaf, and Picard beach is beautiful too. That's about it. On the first night, two beds broke (We traveled with a group of 6). The pillows are terrible and the mattresses are worse. No windows (just screens), no AC, poor kitchenette, lots of ants and others. The "Fresh fish caught daily" had to be sent back and re-cooked as it was still frozen in the middle. Harta, the manager, seemed nice until we saw her throwing fist sized rocks at a stray dog. Upon check-out, she also refused to try her credit card machine, claiming it was broken and that we would have to pay cash. One hour later we returned from the bank with cash and again requested she attempt the credit cards. She refused, stating that she simply wanted the cash now, and was completely unwilling to even check the machine, or to lower her price for inconveniencing us.

Bottom line, if you like people that are nice to you as long as you throw money at them and don't complain, go here. If you like mold-stench, ant infestations, and terrible beds go here. We found that for the price, there are much better establishments on the island....MUCH. I highly doubt that Johnny Depp stayed here.

“Sister sea lodge is a great place to stay”

Last year I stayed 8 nights to Sister sea lodge and had a lovely stay. It's a beautifull place with large bungalows in the middle of trees and flowers. Each bungalows has a terrace. The kitchen is pretty poor if you wanna cook your own meals.
Harta (the owner) is very friendly. The bar is right on the beach facing the sunset.
Dogs may be little noisy during the night.
The dive shop (Cabrit dive) is just 5 minutes walk and diving is excellent
