Dominica is the "Nature Island of the Caribbean" and Herta's Sister Sea Lodge fits into this heavenly place on earth.. As a graphic designer I have a stressful job and that's why I enjoyed the quietness in Herta's tropical garden where the lodges are located. With only a few foot steps to the sea we loved having a swim before breakfast. Allthough located at a quiet place the infrastructure is really good: it's a half-hour walk to Portsmouth (or 10 min by bus, which is about EC$1,00). But you don't need to go that far: a supermarket, a market with vegi/fruits, take-away food, asian restaurants etc are very close.
I would really recommend to have dinner at Sister's restaurant! The food was served on a banana-leaf (have you ever seen this before??).
A short excerpt about Herta: She is a lovely woman and I allways enjoyed listening to one of her stories (she knows about everything and she experienced so many things in her life). And she knows everything about Dominica as well which is really helpful with planning trips or seeing things no regular tourist would see. It was her we went to the friday night's "Jump Up" into the "ghetto" where the locals party all night. We didn't meet other tourists but felt quite safe in her company (and felt without her as well as we went there the next friday ;-) ...).
The lodges are great: way bigger than you expect from the outside with a kitchenette, two king-sized beds, a loungy area with a couch and a bathroom with a shower and (we never used it...) a sat. TV set – what more do you need ;-)
All in all Sister Sea Lodge is a great place to stay! I would really recommend it! Feel free to contact me for further questions!
