The Visitor Center at Sian Ka'an seemed like a great idea- right in the middle of the reserve with great beach access and ecotourist activities. The reality of the place leave much to be desired, though....It is VERY PRIMITIVE and not that I would mind except it is outrageously expensive on top of that. It doesn't include anything in the price- even cleaning services for your room or breakfast (which is expensive also). The rooms were thach- leaking rain and bugs all night and the lights went out around 9pm every night so you needed a flashlight (which we didn't have). It is also located at the end of a VERY bumpy, long road to Tulum so to eat anything or get water you have to drive about half an hour at 5 mph (I would recommend 4 wheel drive). That being said the scenery is incredible- the lagoon is a short walk away and there are kayaks available (for a price....) and an undeveloped beach is also a short walk. I would say you could spend one night here but no more....and be prepared to rough it and empty your wallet (at least during the high season)
