“Amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We stayed in Bagni Vecchi in September 2011 (early), it was an 'off the cuff' decision as we were driving through the Alps on our way to Venice and wanted to visit the Roman Baths not realising that there was a hotel attached too.

We finally decided to bite the bullet and pay the, what we initially thought to be, high price for one night and soon realised that it was the best decision that we made during our holiday in Northern Italy.

The Spa was fantastic!! There are no words to fully describe this; we have never seen anything like this place, just when you think you have seen it all you come across another room, or area that you missed first time around.
There are at least 5 saunas, of varying temperatures and fragrances, mostly overlooking Bormio valley which in itself is a breath taking sight, let alone when relaxing in a sauna to gentle music.

There are various chill out rooms, pools, Jacuzzi’s, waterfall pools etc, the list goes on and on.
The breakfast was also very nice with a large selection of foods to sort all palates and is included in the price of the stay, as is access to the Spa and the Spa of the sister hotel Bagni Nuovi.

All in all we would both highly recommend this Hotel, they were extremely polite and helpful in all aspects even though we both realised that we were mixing with some very rich people so we are not the usual clientele but we felt comfortable at all times and were treated with utmost respect.

“beautiful views, excellent spa facilities and fabulous food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

This was a one night stop, but what a fabulous place. We enjoyed the natural spa facilities. The restaurant food was excellent with a really friendly waiter who went through the italian menu with us. Would love to go back again. Its our 2nd time in Bormeo because we went 2 years ago to drive the Stelvio pass, we could only do one side though this time because of the snow which came early this year!

“A beautiful historic hotel in an enchanting location but no night staff for emergencies”

This was my second visit to Bagni Vecchi which is a beautiful old hotel built high in the rocky cliffs on the road to Passo Stelvio. We were awakened at 5AM this morning by a fire alarm and after several minutes of trying to decide what to do, headed out in our robes through a maze of doors and corridors to the outside and then had to find our way on a dark path around to the front reception area. There is no night staffing at this hotel. If you have a medical emergency or a fire at Bagni Vecchi you must fend for yourself. We found that only 10 people managed to hear the alarm and get themselves outside and we spent 30 minutes in the cold waiting for someone to come or to advise us of the severity of the problem. Finally the manager from the sister hotel, Bagni Nuovi, 10 minutes away down the mountain and who lives in Bormio arrived. Both I and another guest called on our cellphones to tell them there was an emergency at the hotel. When the manager arrived, we were told someone must have been smoking in their room and he would stay to make sure we felt safe. This is rated a 4 star hotel and yet the guests are left alone during the night to fend for themselves in case of fire (the hotel is wooden and remote) or medical emergencies. It is a lovely spa hotel with so much going for it but I would hesitate to stay there again because of their irresponsible concern for their guests' well-being. When we checked out the next morning after a sleepless night, we were offered a bottle of body lotion and told we could write to the owner. Not good enough. It could have been a real disaster if it was a real fire because most of the hotel occupants slept through it.

“shhh - don't tell people”

I don't want to say too much, for fear that this magical dream of a spa hotel will become too popular if word gets out. The rooms are beautiful and immaculate. The view....what can one say. The spa is unforgettable. The restaurant is very good, while not amazing (the cheese, however, was delicious, as was breakfast). The service and amenities are absolutely the best. I would love nothing more than to be sitting in the lavender sauna right now....
