Our cottage, the Corn Loft was adorable and comfortable. This self-catering accomodation is a super value if you are looking for a base to explore castles, whiskey, or outdoor activities. The staff are very helpful, and the sheep Cuthbert and Rover are ready to greet you, as well.
The kitchen was well appointed,. with coffee, tea, and biscuits ready for you on arrival. A wood-burning stove in the living room provided a cozy touch and additional heat.
We enjoyed a very brief stay due to an unusual early spring blizzard-- you couldn't get there from anywhere! So, if traveling in anytime surrounding winter, know that adorable Dufftown is prone to higher snow than other villages in the immediate area! They had 3 feet (and had lost power) when the surrounding area had anywhere from none to a foot.
Though we were there briefly, I can recommend a few local attractions-- The Glenfiddich distillery gives a nice tour, and the Mash Tun in Abelour has good food-- a pub trying to be more than a pub and succeeding.
Check out time was a bit early (10:00), particularly since you have to tidy the cottage and leave it as you found it. Not too hard for us as we only made it one night, but if we'd been there longer, it would have been more of a challenge!
The prepayment policy is strict, so if you are travelling in the winter time, particularly from faraway, I recommend travel insurance!
Note wireless is available but not in your cottage- you need to go the office, which is quite close.
