“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2010

We stayed for 2 nights during our tour in southern evia. We knew that we were off season, but I expected a better situation. The door to the balcony didn't close and we had to change room. The second was Ok, but both rooms were smelling (cigarette??) and were a bit old-fashioned. Apart of this the staff was gently and the lobby bar very nice. Breakfast was for this occasion sufficient. I imagine that in summer things are better.

“At least they had a pool”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

The only way that I could really recommend that you stay in this hotel is if you were coming to Evvia without your car because it's very close to Marmari port. But even then The location and setting of the hotel is stunning with views across the Saronic Gulf (providing you have a sea view - the mountain view would be grim). The pool area is attractive and has a good sized pool.

However, the nicest thing I could say about the room is that if you'd checked in with the idea of committing suicide there's nothing here that's going to change your mind. The dingy brown and orange decor was possibly last updated during the Junta and the furniture and fittings had a barrack room feel to them. Breakfast was literally a bunfight with hordes of guests thinking that they were in a talent contest for how much food you could balance on your plate. Should you stay here then practice some elbow moves before arriving and abandon any notion of politeness. The orange juice was a shocking, powdered concoction that was pretty much undrinkable and the coffee tasted as if it had been made with the hot, bitter tears of a family who had spent their annual hoiday budget on this hotel.

Given the state of the Greek economy, the regular strikes and the consequent drop in tourism makes the fact that this hotel can still operate in this manner even more disgraceful. There is far better to be found on Evvia.

The staff were lovely.

“Overpriced aged hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

We've heard from a friend who stayed here in July 2010, that the rooms (the ones not-looking to the beach, as we discovered later) were very decent and renewed recently so we decided on booking a twin-bed room there without much thought or search (what a mistake that proved to be!).

What we found almost made as laugh as, for the extreme price of 70euros, we got a room from the 1980's with one and only advantage...It's view! And that's Marmari view we are talking about!
I don't care if this was high season, because if this room costs 70euros in a low maintenance village of Greece, one would think that a room in Mykonos must cost around 1000euros...
The room although spacious, had dirty carpeting for floor a stiff bed and a tiny refrigerator. We could only close the shutters of the balcony by slaming them hard and fast because there was a screw (!!!) prevending them from doing so and when they were closed, a bright red light (transformed sunlight) would light up the room! There is no sound insulation at all! The windows are as slim (with wooden casing!!!) as paper, and you may hear every single sound made elsewhere through the walls!

Even then, all would be well if not for the outrageous looking bathroom, where you could barely stand in the bathtub without touching it's dirty with mold curtain. At least it had hot water!!!
It's pool looks great (and is big) but we got no experience of it 'cause as it seems there are kids there 24/7. :-P
The car park is not big enough for everyone, so we even had to park outside the premises once!

Tip1. Book it ONLY if the price is around 40-50euros.
Tip2. Book it ONLY if you don't care for a view and so book a room without a view of the sea. They are recently renovated.
Tip3. I am sure you will find better and cheaper rooms or hotels with little to no search.

“Excellent value for money”

A friend had suggested this hotel and he was right. We went for a weekend at southern Euboea and were absolutely satisfied. Do not expect a luxurious hotel, but for the 70 euros/double room you have to pay at high season and the 50 euros at low season it's a very good choice for an escape from Athens or to explore the beautiful and mysterious southern Euboea. The rooms are clean, and their best is the wonderful balconies facing the gulf. Honestly, I don't remember whether there are rooms facing the mountain, but anyway try to book one with sea view. You will enjoy the sunset so much... Also, the pool was nice and rather spacious, but I would suggest exploring the island, as there are so many magnificent beaches. We visited Aghios Demetrios beach, which can be a summerdream, unless the wind comes from the north. In that case, visit a beach inside the Marmari gulf, or near Karystos, facing south. Generally speaking, Euboea is an island with many hidden beauties, explore it.
