This hotel is a very old building that has been kept in good condition but the design leads to compromises when it is used as a hotel. The staircase is exceptionally narrow. The room we had overlooked the square and was comfortable but the bathroom (really a corner of the original room) was badly designed. The toilet was directly behind the door meaning that the bathroom door could only be opened half way. It would be impossible for overweight people to even enter the bathroom.
Richelieu is worth seeing but it would be better to stay in Chinon and make a day trip to Richelieu.
Overall not recommended unless you really want to stay in Richelieu and are of slim to normal build!
