Osuna is a beautiful town, well worth visiting. However, when visiting do not stay at the Hospederia del Monasterio. A few reasons why:
1. The staff are brusque to the point of rudeness.
2. The room we stayed in (no. 102) was small, dark and damp, with damp patches on the ceiling and walls causing a musty smell. As a result, the sheets on the beds were damp and our clothes became damp when hung in the wardrobe.
3. The floor of the room and the bathroom was absolutely filthy and could not have been cleaned in weeks.
4. The air conditioning was so inefficient that it was hard to tell if it was working at all.
5. The pool was not clean – it even had a tin can at the bottom of it.
6. All the outdoors furniture was dirty and litter regularly swirled around in the breeze.
7. Breakfast was toast and coffee, plonked in front of us – no choice and often no seconds as the staff disappeared once we had been served.
8. The lady who served breakfast was also cleaning the rooms and toilets. She came directly into the kitchen from cleaning the toilets to make the breakfast. We did not see her wash her hands.
9. On one occasion we saw the chef cutting “jamon” whilst smoking, sneezing, and handling other materials.
10. Wet towels were not replaced with clean, dry towels even though they were left on the floor for replacement. They became dirty due to the state of the floor.
11. The floor of the bathroom became very wet as no shower curtain was provided. Not only was this a safety hazard but, because the floor was so dirty, it created mud and our feet became filthy.
It’s a 2 star at the most (not 4 star as the website proclaims) and it’s a real shame that such a lovely town has been blighted by this poor excuse for a hotel. Stay at the Hotel Palacio del Marques de la Gomera instead, it’s far superior – although I note it’s been taken over by Tilscurt (who also run the Hospederia del Monasterio), so let’s hope that hasn’t gone downhill!
