“"Hidden Gem with a relaxed but warm welcome!"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

This is a great Hotel, tucked away at the top of the town surrounded by ancient cobbled streets and Church buildings, With a short walk of less than a minute you have a commanding view over the historic town of Osuna or a short 5 minute walk to the warren of old streets and plazas below. We arrived by bike which was a little tricky given the cobbles and elderly guests might consider other options but this really is a lovely bijou hotel set in an old building with traditional thick spanish walls built around an attractive outside terrace with small pool for cooling down. The rooms were simple but clean and modern with comfortable beds and a mixture of modern and traditional furniture - what a refreshing change from monotone chains. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival by David on reception and it being New Years Eve and with a small afternoon party of local spanish families happily received a small complimentary beer on arrival. A nice touch. I hope to return to Andalusiia again and if I do I know where I will stay.

“The Hotel on the Hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

Stayed here when visting family. Was astonished by the review which criticised the hotel. It has a lovely position at the top of the town and a breeze which in 40 degree temperatures was lovely. Our room was comfortable with a lovely terrace overlooking the small pool where swallows darted about The hotel is close to the cathedral .The staff did not speak much English but were courteous and the lady who served us rolls with olive oil and coffee in the mornings was lovely and cheerful. If you want a peaceful place to stay which is truly a part of Spain then you will be happy with the atmosphere. It is different but charming.
Osuna is a beautiful town and well worth a visit.

“Avoid at all Costs!”

Osuna is a beautiful town, well worth visiting. However, when visiting do not stay at the Hospederia del Monasterio. A few reasons why:

1. The staff are brusque to the point of rudeness.

2. The room we stayed in (no. 102) was small, dark and damp, with damp patches on the ceiling and walls causing a musty smell. As a result, the sheets on the beds were damp and our clothes became damp when hung in the wardrobe.

3. The floor of the room and the bathroom was absolutely filthy and could not have been cleaned in weeks.

4. The air conditioning was so inefficient that it was hard to tell if it was working at all.

5. The pool was not clean – it even had a tin can at the bottom of it.

6. All the outdoors furniture was dirty and litter regularly swirled around in the breeze.

7. Breakfast was toast and coffee, plonked in front of us – no choice and often no seconds as the staff disappeared once we had been served.

8. The lady who served breakfast was also cleaning the rooms and toilets. She came directly into the kitchen from cleaning the toilets to make the breakfast. We did not see her wash her hands.

9. On one occasion we saw the chef cutting “jamon” whilst smoking, sneezing, and handling other materials.

10. Wet towels were not replaced with clean, dry towels even though they were left on the floor for replacement. They became dirty due to the state of the floor.

11. The floor of the bathroom became very wet as no shower curtain was provided. Not only was this a safety hazard but, because the floor was so dirty, it created mud and our feet became filthy.

It’s a 2 star at the most (not 4 star as the website proclaims) and it’s a real shame that such a lovely town has been blighted by this poor excuse for a hotel. Stay at the Hotel Palacio del Marques de la Gomera instead, it’s far superior – although I note it’s been taken over by Tilscurt (who also run the Hospederia del Monasterio), so let’s hope that hasn’t gone downhill!
